THEY UNRAVEL THE TANGLE OF KALOGEROPOULOS' MURDER - CCTV EVIDENCE

Filenews 11 November 2023 - by Ioanna Mantzipia

The tangle of the murder of 55-year-old Thanasis Kalogeropoulos is unravelling for good with the experienced investigators of the ICF Limassol having proceeded within 11 days to four arrests of suspects.

Among the suspects, according to various evidence of the investigators of the ICF of Limassol, are allegedly the two executioners of Kalogeropoulos who silenced him with more than 10 bullets on the morning of October 30 in a parking lot of a seaside café in the area of Germasogeia.

The important and basic pieces of the puzzle have been completed in relation to the involvement and role of the four suspects, while the motive and of course the instigator who wanted Kalogeropoulos dead at all costs remains to be fully clarified. The investigators of the ICF of Limassol have proceeded on Thursday night to the arrest of a 22-year-old man from Larnaka, while early yesterday the 21-year-old wanted in the case was handed over to the authorities.

Before and after the murder in the mansion

Investigators in the case traced the two people after studying CCTV of the area where the 44-year-old's mansion is located. As "F" is informed, CCTV records the 22-year-old along with the 21-year-old being near the 44-year-old's mansion in the area of Skarinou, before the murder of Kalogeropoulos. It is a vehicle of a specific brand that is registered with a familiar face of the 22-year-old, but driven by him. The same vehicle was recorded by CCTV again in the area of the villa immediately after Kalogeropoulos' murder.

Investigators appear convinced of the role of the four suspects, who want them to be familiar faces with each other, while the 22-year-old and the 21-year-old appear to be on friendly terms with each other. Investigators seem to have a clear picture that the murder was organised from the 44-year-old's mansion and with the 41-year-old suspect from Paphos and the 21-year-old wanted allegedly being the persons on the motorcycle. In fact, they have locked up these two persons since they have in their hands their description from testimonies they obtained but also from various closed circuit areas of Limassol and Larnaka. Indicative is the statement of the head of the ICF of Limassol Lefteris Kyriacou in relation to the 21-year-old. "According to the testimonies and evidence in our possession so far, there is reasonable suspicion that this may be the second person on the motorcycle."

Mr. Kyriacou said that the investigations are on a very good track in relation to the investigation of the case, but noted that several other things are expected to be done for the full resolution of the case. "We need more testimony to say that we have fully solved the case."

The 22-year-old was taken to court yesterday morning under draconian security measures wearing a bulletproof vest, with Kalogeropoulos' relatives harassing the suspect and insulting him, while the proceedings took place in the presence of members of the Force, lawyers and journalists.

The investigator of the case, Kostas Michael, requested the detention of the suspect for a period of eight days while once again the report of facts was not read. The court approved the police's request while the suspect's lawyer said that his client made himself available to the investigating authorities, saying that he has no involvement in the case. Upon the departure of the suspect from the Court again there were fights with members of the Police fleeing him. The 22-year-old is suspected of the offences of conspiracy to commit murder and aiding and abetting.

It should be noted that today the 21-year-old who was wanted in the case and handed over to the authorities is expected to be brought before the Court for a detention order.
