Specific specifications and a price ceiling per kilowatt and on the entire installation will have to be met in the island’s newly-provided photovoltaic systems to be made available by installers to households.
This is within the Photovoltaics for All project which aims to facilitate the installation of solar energy harvesting systems for self-production and reduce the cost of electricity supply to households.
The Ministry of Energy has also decided to put a cap on the price of photovoltaic panels that can be made available through the scheme in order to prevent the risk of price increases in view of the increased demand expected early next year.
That is, when the plan will be implemented and applications galore are expected to be tabled.
Philenews also reports that following a market research, both domestic and European, the Ministry has decided to include in the plan photovoltaic panels sold up to 1,325 euros per kilowatt, including VAT. And the ceiling set on the price is €5,000 euros.
It is understood that consumers can claim a lower price, depending on the system they choose.
The Ministry argues that the above restrictions on the maximum prices to protect consumers from possible profiteering but also ensure that good quality systems are purchased.
