The Pafos District Committee of the Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation, following relevant complaints and investigation, was confronted with two serious incidents of injury and killing of wild birds, from hunting activity and poaching, respectively.
Specifically, as the Movement states in an announcement, the first incident concerns a complaint received from a citizen about an injured falcon (Falco tinnunculus or Siahini) found in the area of Tala. The falcon, which had wounds on its left wing from shotgun, was taken by a member of the Provincial Committee of the Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation to the Game Service for treatment.

The second and equally important incident concerns poaching activity, and in particular, illegal entry and placement of limesticks in a yard of a house by trappers. Unfortunately, the result of this action was the torture and killing of birds trapped in the sticky substance of limesticks. When the incident was noticed, the Game Service was informed, but unfortunately did not respond to collect evidence and investigate the incident, resulting in the torturous death of the small birds.

This incident should immediately concern the Anti-Poaching Squad and the Game Service, the Movement stresses. It is inconceivable that trappers can, without any control and with such ease, proceed to illegal placements of limesticks and even to private property.

"As a political space, we reiterate the view that it is the duty of the organized state to ensure the protection of the environment and its fauna. We assure that we will continue, inside and outside Parliament, to fight against any policy directed against nature and people," he concludes.
