ETAP PAPHOS - IN NEW PROGRAM OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION FOR CRISIS MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE IN TOURISM


 

ETAP Paphos in a new program of the European Commission for crisis management and governance in tourism Just recently after a relevant call for interest the Tourism Development Company and Pafos Region Promotion has been selected in a group of 50 European Union destinations for participation in the specific project.

Through the process, the destination Paphos has also been selected in the group of 50 participants destinations, ETAP will be represented by Nasos Hatzigeorgiou - Executive Director. Destinations with their involvement in the project will have the opportunity through a series of meetings with specialized experts in the field to embark on a personalized journey to improve the way of managing crises but also the governance practices of the destination.

Through this initiative, ETAP is expected to benefit from the following: - To improve the understanding of the state of the tourism context and the possibilities that there are on the subject. -Improving the identification of risks and impacts caused by crises in tourism. -To deepen their understanding of the mechanisms and data sources for the management of crisis events. -Improving governance structures and processes related to tourism.

At the same time, a series of tasks are expected to be carried out for the destination Paphos, such as

a) Conducting Risk Assessment Study. b) Preparation of SWOT analysis. c) Exchange ideas/suggestions about it with possible measures to improve tourism governance and its resilience destination/domain.

The end result of the packages that will be produced is a customized Action Plan that will include specific and actionable initiatives to enhance preparedness, response and recovery for future crises and Improving governance and resilience within the destination/association

The project "crisis management and governance in tourism" is an initiative of the European Commission through the single market programme. The aim of the initiative is to make the internal market more efficient, to stimulate the competitiveness of SMEs businesses, support European standardization and empower consumers. The selected destinations through the process of the "Crisis Management and Governance in tourism' aims to improve the governance of the EU's tourism ecosystem by making the most resilient and best prepared for crisis management and mitigation.

The first meeting of the 50 European destinations is expected to take place online on the 29th November 2023.
