A 63-year-old man was found driving with a suspended driver's license, without a safety certificate and in a state of intoxication, in Paphos, according to the Police.

According to the press representative of ADE Paphos and head of TAE Paphos, Michalis Nikolaou, yesterday Sunday, November 19, at 15:00, members of group Z on Aristotelous Savva Street stopped a vehicle driven by a 63-year-old man.

As it was established, Mr. Nikolaou told KYPE, he was driving, with a revoked driver's license, without a safety certificate, while he was intoxicated.

In a preliminary alcohol test, it was found that the alcohol limit in his body was 117 mg instead of 22 mg, which is the permitted limit. The 63-year-old was then taken to his residence, after being accused in writing to be summoned to court later.

Four persons were detained in Paphos, on November 17, for an investigated case of illegal stay on the territory of the Republic.

According to the press representative of ADE Paphos and head of TAE Paphos Michalis Nikolaou, last Friday a coordinated operation took place in an apartment complex in Paphos between the hours of 08:30 - 11:00.

As part of the operation, 12 apartments were checked and four persons were identified who were residing in the Republic without a permit. These persons were arrested and taken into custody with a view to their deportation, said Mr. Nikolaou.

Members of the ADE Pafos, the Aliens and Immigration Service as well as the health services of the Municipality took part in the operation for matters of their own responsibilities, said Mr. Nikolaou.

A gigantic operation to locate and arrest illegal aliens was carried out yesterday by the Aliens and Immigration Service of Paphos on a large scale in tourist areas of the Province which was carried out in collaboration with members of the YAM Headquarters and the YAM of other provinces.

The result of the gigantic operation was to arrest a total of 22 people, among them 15 women and 7 men, who reside illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. 

Also, in the checks carried out in businesses and professional properties, two more people were identified as legally residing on our island but working illegally, as a result of which they were reported, which is expected to happen with their employers as well. 

The 22 people who were arrested were taken to the Police custody and it is expected that the process of their deportation will begin. Of the 22, three accepted their voluntary departure from the territory of the Republic, while for the rest, all the necessary actions for mandatory deportation will be activated.

Most of those arrested are from Georgia, while the rest are from Pakistan and African countries.

The Paphos District Court issued a two-day detention order against a 30-year-old woman for an investigated case of impersonation to facilitate investigations.  

According to the press representative of ADE Paphos and Head of TAE Paphos Michalis Nikolaou yesterday Sunday November 19 at 17:15 a woman bound for France presented herself at the Departures Department of Paphos airport presenting Belgian travel documents. During the passport check, it was found that the woman depicted in the photo was allegedly different from the person who presented her. When interrogated, the woman confessed her true identity and admitted the crime of impersonation. She is 30 years old and comes from an African country.

The exams continue at the TAE Paphos.

A 38-year-old person is wanted by the Police for an under-investigation case of vehicle theft and arson in Paphos.

According to the press representative of ADE Paphos and Head of TAE Paphos Michalis Nikolaou, on November 17 a complaint was made to the Paphos Traffic Department by a 60-year-old owner of a vehicle rental company, that on November 6 he rented a specific car to a 38-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus with the agreement to return it to November 15, which he did not do, as a result of which he was accused of driving without his consent.

On Sunday, at 11:30 p.m., the vehicle was spotted in a parking lot at the port of Kato Paphos and it was found that in addition to the damage it sustained on the outside, it had several damages on the inside that were allegedly caused by fire.

From the on-site examinations by members of the TAE Paphos and the Fire Service, it became clear that the fire was set maliciously. An arrest warrant was issued against the 38-year-old for allegedly stealing a vehicle as well as setting it on fire.

The examinations for the case continue by the TAE Paphos.

The Paphos Police proceeded to the arrest of a 36-year-old man for an investigated case of conspiracy to commit a felony and a misdemeanor, impersonation and assisting the illegal entry and transit of third-country nationals, in order to facilitate investigations.

According to the press representative of ADE Paphos and Head of TAE Paphos, Michalis Nikolaou, on November 19 at 19:00, a 36-year-old man presented himself at the Departures Department of Paphos airport, who was in possession of German travel documents bound for Germany.

From a check carried out by the members of the Aliens and Immigration Service, it was established that the passport in question was on the stop list and it was established that the person in question had arrived in Cyprus on June 17, stayed until June 20 and then left after four days .

Subsequently, he returned to Cyprus with a residence permit until September 22, but it was found that on June 27, the documents in question were used by another unknown person who allegedly travelled to a European country and subsequently appears to have been arrested in the country he ended up in for the crime of impersonation.

The said owner of the documents had reported them as lost documents on June 28.

Despite this, it was found that he had them in his possession yesterday and tried to leave Cyprus.

As Mr. Nikolaou reported to the KYPE, all these actions created reasonable suspicions of the 36-year-old's involvement in the offenses of conspiracy to commit a felony and a misdemeanor, impersonation and aiding the illegal entry and transit of third-country nationals for this, and the Police proceeded to arrest him. He was then taken into custody.

The examinations for the case continue by the TAE Paphos.

A case of theft of  €53,000 from a person who allegedly posed as a vehicle importer in Paphos is being investigated by the Police, who are looking for a 31-year-old suspect.

According to the press representative of ADE Paphos and head of TAE Paphos, Michalis Nikolaou, it was reported by three persons aged 30, 35 and 61 that between May and July 14 this year, on separate occasions, they handed over money amounting to  €53,000 to a permanent resident of Cyprus aged 31 who introduced himself to them as a car salesman with the intention of proceeding with actions and importing specific cars to them from abroad.

As it was established, the 31-year-old seems to have left Cyprus, without responding to any of their calls.

An arrest warrant has been issued against him and he is wanted.

The examinations for the case continue by the TAE Paphos.

As part of the investigations into various cases of burglaries and thefts, the Police, during last night, arrested three persons in the provinces of Limassol and Famagusta, to facilitate the investigations. In Limassol, two persons, aged 38 and 28, were arrested on the basis of court warrants, to facilitate investigations related to an investigated case of burglary and theft. The case was reported to the TAE Limassol, yesterday morning, by the owner of a cafe in Limassol. According to the complainant, during the night between November 18 and 19, 2023, unknown persons broke into his cafeteria and stole various electrical appliances and tools. From the Police examinations, testimony emerged against the 38-year-old and the 28-year-old, who were arrested last night, pursuant to court warrants, and were taken into custody to facilitate investigations. The TAE of Limassol is investigating the case. In the province of Famagusta, members of the Crime Investigation Department, proceeded to arrest a 21-year-old man, to facilitate investigations regarding an investigated case of theft and illegal possession of a firearm and explosives. The case was reported to the Police, by a resident of Paralimni, on November 19. According to the complainant, around 3 p.m. yesterday, unknown persons stole his car, while it was parked in his orchard, in the province of Famagusta. Inside the vehicle was his shotgun, as well as a bag containing five boxes of hunting cartridges. A few hours later, the stolen vehicle was found parked in the area of Paralimni, but the gun and cartridges were not found. From the continuation of the Police examinations, a testimony was obtained against a 21-year-old. The 21-year-old was located in his apartment, where after a search the complainant's shotgun and cartridges were located. The 21-year-old was arrested for an unprovoked crime and taken into custody to facilitate investigations. The TAE of Famagusta is investigating the case.

Police arrested a minor in connection with the assault and causing grievous bodily harm to a 16-year-old boy and his mother.

According to the facts, the 16-year-old along with his mother made a complaint about an assault they received outside a school in Mesa Geitonia, by about ten youths.

The 16-year-old suffered a fractured nose and ribs and had remained in hospital for further treatment.

As part of the investigations into various cases of burglary and theft, the Police proceeded during the last night to arrest three persons, in the districts of Limassol and Famagusta, to facilitate the investigations.

In Limassol, two persons, aged 38 and 28, were arrested under court warrants to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of building burglary and theft.

The case was reported to the ICF of Limassol yesterday morning by the owner of a café in Limassol. According to the complainant, during the night, between November 18 and 19, 2023, unknown persons broke into his café and stole various electrical appliances and tools.

Police examinations revealed testimony against the 38-year-old and 28-year-old, who were arrested last night under court warrants and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.

The ICF Limassol is investigating the case.

The 30-year-old man from Spain responded today to the Pafos Assize Court for transporting a large quantity to Cyprus through Pafos airport, regarding three charges. On the contrary, for two others he replied non-admission and the case for them will continue to be heard.

The 30-year-old specifically pleaded guilty to charges of possession, import and intent to supply the drugs, while not admitting felony and money laundering charges in respect of an amount of 275 euros found in his possession. The Assize Court set November 30 as the day on which it will impose sentences for the admitted charges and for the start of the hearing for the other two. Until then, he ordered that the accused remain in custody.

The arrest of the accused took place on October 3 at Paphos airport, after arriving from abroad. In a subsequent search, four nylon packages containing a quantity of cannabis, with a total gross weight of 15 kg and 410 grams, were found in his luggage.

Questioned after his arrest, the 30-year-old claimed he was approached by people he did not know who asked him to transport drugs for a fee. He reportedly even told YKAN members that he did not know who they would receive.

The 30-year-old arrived in Paphos via Vienna from Spain.
