CRIME ROUND UP

Filenews 1 November 2023

After the brutal murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, within less than 48 hours another murder was committed, this time of Alexis Mavromichalis (Alexoui).

According to reports, 45-year-old Mavromichalis while in an apartment in the Acropolis area of Nicosia received only one bullet from a sniper while on the balcony of his apartment on the second floor.

At the first light of day, the scene was visited by the Chief of Police, Stelios Papatheodorou.

His vital organs were affected and despite the efforts of doctors, shortly after midnight, the victim breathed his last at Nicosia General Hospital.

Three more assassination attempts were made against Alexis Mavromichalis, in 2004, 2008 and 2015.

Shortly after the murderous attack, a vehicle reportedly declared stolen was spotted on fire near the exit of Kotsiatis, near the Nicosia-Limassol highway.

Authorities did not rule out the possibility that the car was linked to the incident, with the perpetrators setting fire to cover their tracks.

The perpetrators of the murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos on Monday morning had taken a similar action, which does not exclude the possibility that the two murders are linked.
