MOT FOR MOTORCYCLES FROM NEXT MONTH

 Filenews 13 October 2023

One step before the implementation of the MOT on motorcycles is the Department of Road Transport, with the procedures running in terms of training the technicians who will carry out the checks.

It is estimated, according to philenews from TFT, that from next month the first motorcycles will start to be called for technical inspection.

The approximately 100 technicians who will carry out the inspection of two-wheelers in licensed workshops are currently being trained and will also issue certificates of conformity, as is the case with the MOT of vehicles. Interest from centres is decreasing, but it is not excluded that it will subsequently increase. Eight applications have been submitted and the first four will be licensed by the TFT soon.

The roadworthiness test of the motorcycles will cost €25 and in case of review the cost will be €10.

Initially, motorcycles that are already in circulation and old will start to be called and gradually they will be called depending on their "age".

New motorcycles will undergo roadworthiness tests four years after their first registration and then every two, as is the case with cars.

Thousands of motorcycles are currently registered and it is expected that the mechanical inspection will also check the problem with their modifications, which contribute to an increase in speed or to the emission of sound different from that specified by the manufacturer, depending on the permissible limit.
