A 24-year-old foreigner from Somalia, who did not want to leave Cyprus, doused himself in gasoline shortly after 11 a.m. outside the Aliens and Immigration Service, and set himself on fire, resulting in burns.
Police immediately intervened and extinguished the fire. The young man was taken to hospital and his health condition remains unknown.
The 23-year-old had reportedly applied for asylum in 2021, which was rejected, and some time ago he reportedly applied for voluntary return to his country.
This morning he went to the aliens service and expressed his desire not to leave, while at the same time he protested against the rejection of his asylum application and then he doused himself with flammable material that he had in a bottle and set himself on fire.
The fire was extinguished by the police and he was transported with burns to the Hospital.
