There is preparedness on the part of hospitals and in case of need there will be a response for the reception and treatment of sick or injured people from Israel, said the spokesman of the State Health Services Organization (SHSO), Charalambos Charilaou.
Charilaou said that "in case there is a need to transfer sick or wounded people from Israel to Cyprus, the bilateral agreement that exists will be activated and our hospitals will receive these patients or wounded to treat them."
Asked to explain what the bilateral agreement provides, Charilaou said that the bilateral agreement, which has been signed between the Ministry of Health of Cyprus and Israel, includes, among other things, the exchange of patients in mass disasters or anything else that causes a large number of losses.
Asked whether there is availability of beds in hospitals for these cases, Mr. Charilaou replied that in these cases there is an action plan where the program of all hospitals is revised and vacancies are made either in operating rooms or in wards to treat such cases.
"There is readiness on the part of hospitals and in case of need we will respond," Charilaou concluded.
