Ten more arrests were made today by the Police, during a coordinated operation, set up after assessing information, for a migrant smuggling ring to Cyprus and in which more than 130 members of the Police participated.
The large-scale operation was conducted in the district of Pafos and was carried out following an intelligence assessment, with the participation of members of UNHCR, TAE (E), M.M.A.D. and Y.K.A.N., during which coordinated search operations were conducted. Specifically, 17 search warrants were executed at homes and premises where ten persons were located and arrested, while five more are wanted.
From the investigations, which are still ongoing, the sum of €160,000 was found in the possession of one of the arrested persons, as well as various other items, which have been seized for further examinations.
According to police examinations, those arrested allegedly participated in a criminal organization dealing with migrant smuggling. These are offences committed from June 2019 until today in the Republic of Cyprus and concern, inter alia, offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, participation in a criminal organisation, trafficking of adult persons and offences in violation of the Money Laundering Law.
Today's is the third large-scale police operation to dismantle migrant smuggling networks and today's arrests bring the total number of arrests to 22.
The Police continue their intensive efforts to identify and arrest persons acting as smugglers, with a view to dismantling irregular migrant smuggling networks in the Republic of Cyprus.

A person was injured superficially after a serious family quarrel in the Nicosia district.
The incident took place around 14:00 on Sunday at a house in Tseri. Three brothers got into a verbal argument, causing the situation to get out of hand.
One of the persons involved in the fight is alleged, according to initial police examinations, to have fired a shotgun into the air and under circumstances that are under investigation one of the brothers was injured.
The injuries are reportedly frivolous and there is no need to provide first aid to the person who suffered them. However, it is likely that the complainant is expected to go to the Accident and Emergency Department, for formal reasons (see police examinations).
The case is already being investigated by the Lakatameia Police Station, whose members went to the scene for on-site examinations.

In the context of the execution of a European warrant issued by the Polish authorities, members of the ICF Limassol proceeded to the arrest of a 34-year-old man.
The Pole was wanted in his country for the offences of importing, trafficking and supplying drugs to another person such as cocaine and ketamphetamine.
Tomorrow he is expected to appear before the Limassol District Court to begin the extradition process to Poland.

Police arrested a 27-year-old man yesterday who was found in possession of a quantity of drugs when entering a football match.
According to the Police, during the process of checking the fans before the start of the football match between the teams Doxa Katokopias – Anorthos, a member of the Police found in the possession of the 27-year-old dry cannabis plant matter, weighing about three grams.
The 27-year-old reacted to the investigation, resulting in his arrest for a flagrant offence.
A portion of the away team's fans noticed the incident and moved aggressively and with threatening moods towards the members of the Police, shouting and demanding that the 27-year-old be released.
The restoration of order occurred with the immediate intervention of anti-riot teams of the Police, while the above incident injured a cashier and a member of the Police, who received first aid from nurses of the stadium.
The Police Station of Peristerona continues the examinations.
