Tripling the size of the existing port in Latchi and future provision for cruise ships is provided, inter alia, by the agreement signed by the Cyprus Ports Authority and the consortium of Triton Consulting Engineers S.A. and I.A.CO Environmental And Water Consultants Limited for the study and design of the development of the Port of Latchi. The tender to the consortium was awarded following an open tender.
The President of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Ports Authority Antonis St. Stylianou said that the €45 million investment in the port of Latchi is one of the largest investments of the Cyprus Ports Authority from its own funds. As he explained, It includes the tripling of the existing port, adding 350 new berths on the basis of modern international mooring and mooring standards. It will also create new land areas and facilities, with the new design providing for future provision for the mooring of cruise ships outside the windward breakwater, while it will upgrade the port product provided by the Cyprus Ports Authority in the area.
At the same time, he noted, it will bring positive benefits to the local community and, most importantly, it will be the first full green development in a port facility in Cyprus. The first green port in Cyprus will be created, aware of the new port realities at European and global level, with full respect for the coastal and marine environment.
