Targeted checks and inspections to combat undeclared and illegal work of third-country nationals were carried out, as part of the campaign launched on 28/08/2023, by the Ministry of Labour in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior.
During the four-week period from 28/08/2023 to 22/09/2023, 418 inspections were carried out by the Inspection Service, mainly at construction sites, leisure centers and hotels.
The inspections covered 418 employers and examined 1387 employees, of whom 98 (7%) were undeclared. Of the 98 undeclared workers, 66% (67 persons) were foreigners from third countries.
Administrative fines totalling €157,900 were issued.
Of the 1387 employees, 36% (502 persons) were foreigners from third countries.
Of the 502 persons (third-country nationals) identified, 40.6% (204 persons) were illegally employed.
In Limassol, 33 illegal workers were identified as foreigners from third countries. Of these, 28 people were illegally employed, 2 people were with false documents and 3 people were illegal residents.
In Larnaka, 29 illegal foreign workers from third countries were identified. Of these, 10 people were illegally employed, 4 people were with false documents and 15 people were illegal residents.
In Paphos, 88 illegal foreign workers from third countries were identified. Of these, 30 people were illegally employed, 9 people were with false documents and 48 people were illegal residents.
In Nicosia, 54 illegal foreign workers from third countries were identified. Of these, 24 people were illegally employed, 6 people were with false documents and 24 people were illegal residents.
