The Cypriot Ambassador to Kuwait, Michael Mavros, expressed his sincere apologies to the Kuwaiti tourists and their families who were hit during the recent incidents in Limassol, noting that the Republic of Cyprus has taken strict measures to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
In a statement to Al-Qabas, the Cypriot diplomat said: "We strongly condemn the unprecedented and deplorable acts of violence against migrants and visitors that have erupted in Cyprus in recent weeks and shocked Cypriot society."
The Cypriot ambassador went on to say that "the government of the Republic of Cyprus, all political parties and civil society as a whole condemned these unacceptable and shameful events." He reiterated that his country's government is taking steps to prevent similar acts from happening again in the future, and many of those responsible for the violence have been arrested.
He continued: "Unfortunately, the aforementioned events led, among other things, to attacks against a small number of Kuwaiti tourists who happened to be near the site of the violent demonstrations..."
"We would like to express our apologies and sincere sympathy to the citizens of Kuwait and their families affected by the events, and assure them that Cyprus will remain an open and welcoming country and that we will continue to welcome Kuwaiti and Arab friends."
In this regard, it is recalled that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Kombos, on the occasion of the incident, met with the Ambassador of Kuwait in Nicosia.
