A 30-year-old Greek Cypriot who was the target of a criminal attack is being treated in a private hospital.

The incident took place today at around 01:30. As soon as he parked his vehicle in the apartment building where he lives in the area of Engomi, four strangers with covered faces attacked him, beating him with clubs and other objects in various parts of his body.

The 30-year-old managed to escape and sought help from another person, who took him to the private hospital. According to the latest update from the police, the victim of the attack was detained for hospitalization.

It was found that he was injured in the leg with a sharp object, while he had an obvious blow to the forehead.

Reports said the young man told police he had no suspicions about the people who beat him.

A new malicious action at a gas station in Peyia occurred last night, a week after the arson of a double-cab vehicle belonging to the operator of another petrol station.

The fire in a double-cab fuel carrier, which was parked inside a service station facility, broke out shortly before nine o'clock last night.

According to the spokesman of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, the vehicle suffered extensive damage from the fire. Mr. Kettis said that with the immediate intervention of the fire brigade, the fuel pumps and the buildings of the service station were protected and not endangered.

Police have made two arrests to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of assault on a police officer causing actual bodily harm, malicious damage and reckless and dangerous driving.

These are two 23-year-old residents, residents of Limassol, who were arrested under court warrants and detained to facilitate interrogations.

Specifically, at dawn on the 23rd September 2023, information was received to the Police that unknown persons were causing damage, with paint spray, to walls, in a specific area, in Limassol. Members of the Police went to the area, where they spotted young people, spray-painting, on walls.

When police officers approached the youths, one of them attacked them, hitting one officer on the head. He then sprayed the spray at the second policeman and ran away.

The police followed him and saw him getting into a car, in which a second person was aboard. The driver of the vehicle, developing breakneck speed and driving dangerously managed to escape.

Police arrested a 36-year-old man yesterday as part of an investigation into a case involving conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal possession, use and possession of drugs for the purpose of supply, illegal possession of explosives and money laundering.

Members of the Limassol YKAN stopped a  man on foot outside his home in Limassol yesterday afternoon. Nothing was found in his possession, and his home was then searched with a court warrant.

During the search, a quantity of cannabis with a total gross weight of one kilogram and 360 grams, 66 factory firecrackers and 16 flares were found in various parts of the house and received as evidence.

The 36-year-old was arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations.

Police arrested a 37-year-old resident of Nicosia yesterday to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of illegal possession and transfer of a firearm and carrying a firearm to incite terror. Four other people had been arrested in connection with the same case in the previous days, three of whom are in custody.

The investigation of the case began in the early morning of September 23, 2023, following a tip received by the Police about a fight inside a nightclub in Nicosia. Members of the Police went to the scene and during the examinations that followed, information was received that during the fight, one of the patrons recovered a pistol.

Further examinations secured testimony against four persons, aged 37, 32, 39 and 41. These individuals were arrested on 24 September, pursuant to court warrants, to facilitate interrogations. Their home was searched, but nothing was found.

On the same day, a 37-year-old, a 39-year-old and a 41-year-old man were brought before the Nicosia District Court, which issued a five-day detention order against them. The 32-year-old, after being questioned in writing, was released after nothing came to light against him.

From the continuation of the examinations, testimony emerged against a second 37-year-old. A judicial arrest warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested yesterday and detained to facilitate interrogations.

It is now an almost daily occurrence in Paphos to detect drivers who are behind the wheel having used drugs.

On Monday night, a 25-year-old man was arrested by police for driving under the influence of drugs and possessing a quantity of drugs.

The 25-year-old's vehicle was stopped for inspection by a police patrol on a Paphos road, when officers found that the car in question was moving suspiciously and in a strange way. The 25-year-old was found in possession of a quantity of narcotic substances that he said he possessed for his own use, while a narcotest test was carried out with a positive indication.

The 25-year-old was taken to the Paphos YKAN Offices where he was charged in writing and released to be summoned to justice later.

Police believe that the destruction of two luxury cars – with a total value of about €200,000 – was deliberate as firefighters suspect arson.

The Limassol police department explained on Tuesday that the fire was first noticed at 11:40pm on Monday night.

They added that the cars, belonging to a 35-year-old businesswoman, were parked in the ground-floor area of an apartment building in Ayios Tychonas.

Firefighting services soon arrived at the scene and subsequent inspections point to the fires having been set deliberately.

Police are continuing their investigations and CCTV footage is being examined.
