Filenews 11 September 2023
The antifascist march is underway in Eleftherias Square, where crowds of people, hundreds of demonstrators, gathered at the spot, with the slogan, "we march together against fascist barbarism, for a society of solidarity".
It is noted that there is a strong police presence at the site.
The demonstration, according to the organizers, gives another strong response to racist attacks and violent incidents targeting migrants in Chloraka and Limassol.
The announcement of the organizers:
In view of the blatant onslaught of fascism that has been observed lately against immigrants and foreigners in general, we call on the entire progressive world to give a clear answer: Fascism will not pass. On Sunday 10 September at Eleftherias Square in Nicosia at 18:00, we march together against fascist barbarity, for a society of solidarity.
This demonstration, following the antifascist mobilizations of recent days, will give another strong response to racist attacks and violent incidents targeting migrants in Chloraka and Limassol, as well as a protest against biased media coverage that tries to whitewash acts of racist violence, describing the perpetrators as "hooligans".
We also stand against politicians and state officials who incite the masses and then feign surprise when things escalate.
The fascist attacks are fuelled by the racist policies implemented by the state and the EU. The only thing that can stop them is the organization of society itself, the common front of all workers, locals and immigrants.
We call on all progressive people to show their anti-fascist reflexes with a peaceful march in Nicosia. All at Eleftherias Square at 18:00, to give another answer to fascism. Against fascist barbarism, we must put resistance, dignity and solidarity first.
We invite groups, groups, organizations to co-sign the call and join us on Sunday on the street.
