The Police will intensify information and policing operations, with increased road checks for the driving of trucks, buses, and TAXI vehicles, over the next two weeks, from Wednesday, August 23, until Wednesday, September 06, 2023, as part of the continuous actions for road safety.
The new coordinated action will focus on testing driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs by professional truck, bus and taxi drivers, as well as checking the suitability of vehicles, with particular emphasis on the suitability of their tyres.
Driving heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses, as well as driving TAXI vehicles carrying a number of passengers, present increased difficulties and risks on the road network. Risks arising due to the size and weight of buses and trucks, as well as due to the transport of other persons and cargo. This requires special attention and concentration on the part of professional drivers.
The Police addresses recommendations to professional drivers for compliance with the legislation and observance of the traffic code and road safety rules and intensifies traffic controls to deal with traffic offences, always with a view to preventing serious and fatal road traffic collisions and increasing safety on the road network.
