A new arrival of irregular migrants occurred at dawn. A Turkish smuggler transported 14 Syrians by speedboat from the Asia Minor coast, disembarked them on a shore in the area of Pomos and returned home.
The Syrians, 13 men and a 14-year-old teenager, were spotted by police on the main road between Pomos and Polis Chrysochis around 2.30am and after an hour earlier the coastal radar of the republic had detected the vessel's signal. They said they paid $3,500 each to the Turkish smuggler for the journey to Cyprus and claimed they set off at ten o'clock last night from a port near Mersin and reached the coast of Pomos an hour and a half after midnight.
They have been transferred to the police station of Polis Chrysochous to take statements and will later be transferred to the temporary accommodation center "Pournara".
