Investigations continue into the incident in Nata, with the death of a 75-year-old man who allegedly touched power lines cut off in the yard of a house, EAC Board of Directors President Despina Panagiotou-Theodosiou said on Tuesday, while urging the public to stay away from cables in case of breakdowns.

Asked by a journalist after the meeting at EAC headquarters on the issue of forest fires, on the incident in the Paphos district, Theodosiou said that investigations are still underway so they cannot say much.

"What we want to tell people is, stay away from the cables, there is a risk," he said, urging the public.  If they see cables, "to stay away until the EAC crews come to repair any damage that may exist."

The EAC President expressed its sincere condolences to the relatives of the deceased.

He said he was aware of the community leader's statements, adding that "EAC, whatever it has to do, it does, but there must also be cooperation with the owners."

He noted that it is not always easy for EAC to enter a house, even if it is abandoned, "an owner has, so there, there must be cooperation with both communities and owners".

Asked if EAC can draw data from its records on premises in which the network may not be used for years, he said that, "of course we have our records, but again, there must be cooperation, there are many thousands of homes that we supply, so you understand that this is not so easy and we ask for cooperation". He said that community leaders can also notify EAC about houses that have been abandoned for many years and see that there is a problem. "Notify us and we will be there," he said.
