The Pafos District Court imposed an 18-month prison sentence on a 28-year-old Romanian resident of Pafos. He was found guilty of residential burglary and theft that occurred earlier this year in Paphos.
In the possession of the Romanian, in addition to stolen goods and burglary tools, a small quantity of drugs had been found.
Authorities, though unable to link him to other burglaries, believe he was involved in other cases reported at the same time.

At around 11.20pm, yesterday, while members of the Traffic Police were conducting speed checks on the motorway, a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old man at a speed of 195 kilometers per hour, instead of 100, stopped for inspection despite the exit of Tseri, towards Nicosia.
The 22-year-old was arrested for a flagrant offence and transferred to Pera Chorio Police Station, after which he was dismissed and is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court today.

Members of the Police arrested four people yesterday in the context of an investigation into drug possession and money laundering.
Three men, two 38-year-olds, a 35-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were detained to facilitate interrogations.
According to the Police, the arrest of the above persons was preceded yesterday afternoon by members of the YKAN, based on a court warrant, at a house in Limassol, where three of the above four persons live.
During the subsequent search, a quantity of cocaine weighing approximately 595 grams was found inside the house, as well as a quantity of cannabis weighing about four grams.
Also, in a garbage bin in the yard of the house, two nylon packages were found, one quantity of cocaine weighing 25 grams and the second quantity of cannabis weighing about 15 grams.
In the courtyard of the house, two precision electronic scales were also found, in which there were traces of narcotics, while various small amounts of money were seized as evidence, which were found in the possession of the arrested.
Further examinations revealed that two of the above persons (a 38-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman) were staying illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
The YKAN (Limassol Unit) continues the examinations.

A new case of extortion of property by false representations, related to "PaySafe" prepaid credit cards, is being investigated by the Police, following a complaint submitted yesterday (10/08/2023) to the Police.
According to the complaint, an employee of a supermarket in the Limassol district received a call yesterday on the supermarket's landline phone, from a Greek phone number, from an unknown person, who, speaking in Greek, said that he is the director of a specific company (cooperating with the said supermarket) and asked to be given "PaySafe" prepaid card numbers.
The supermarket employee became convinced that the person he was talking to was the manager of the company in question and issued 39 PaySafe cards, worth a total of €1,950 (€50 each), giving the secret codes to the unknown person.
Subsequent examinations revealed that all 39 cards had been redeemed.

Members of the Green Line Surveillance and Migration Flow Response Subdirectorate, while on a motorized patrol yesterday afternoon, stopped a car driven by a 66-year-old man for inspection in the area of Astromeritis.
In a subsequent search inside the vehicle by the members of the Police, property was found (such as pieces of copper, various tools, wires, etc.), for which the 66-year-old did not give satisfactory explanations for their origin, resulting in his arrest for the offense of illegal possession of property.
Under oral questioning, the 66-year-old admitted to stealing copper pieces from mobile phone substations in the areas of Menoikos and Astromeritis villages.
Subsequently, with his written consent, a search was carried out at his home in Limassol, during which property was found, for which he also did not give satisfactory explanations for its origin.

Police arrested a 25-year-old man yesterday as part of an investigation into theft by finding, theft and illegal stay.
According to a complaint by a Larnaca resident, yesterday morning, while departing with his car from a specific point in Larnaca, he forgot his purse (containing the amount of 6,000 euros) outside the back of the vehicle, resulting in losing it.
The driver of the vehicle, when he realized the loss and searched for his purse, secured testimony that it had fallen at a specific point in Larnaca.
According to the testimony, the bag was received by a motorcycle driver who followed the complainant's car, in the presence of other persons, under the pretext that he would hand it over to its owner.
Members of the Police who were called to investigate the incident, after coordinated actions, located the driver of the motorcycle, a 25-year-old man, who was found to be staying illegally in the territory of the Republic.
Under questioning, the 25-year-old admitted to picking up the purse and handing it over to another driver he believed was the owner of the property he found.
After further examination, it was found that the 25-year-old's claim was not true, and with his written consent, a search was carried out at the house where he lives, where in the vestibule of the building, in a bag, all the stolen property of the complainant was found.
A court warrant was issued against the 25-year-old and he was arrested to facilitate interrogations.
