CARE DAYS DREAMS LAUNCH…
Making dreams come true for more cancer
patients.
Andrew
Lauder, the founder of Care Days, is delighted to announce yet another
extension of the rapidly growing Care Days project, helping patients with
cancer to “live the dream” by offering various pampering options completely
free of charge.
Andrew’s dream was always to enable a
small number of cancer patients to be able to make their own dream come true
through Care Days, but as Care Days has been funded entirely by themselves and
Charlotte, their administrator, from Charlotte Graphic and Website
Design, funding this has not been possible until now.
The
current offering of seven different options for cancer patients all kindly
offered free of charge by the service providers will of course continue through
the booking form on our website www.caredayscyprus.com
but in addition to this, thanks to a very generous group of individuals in the
Winkle Club, founded in the UK in 1900, with Sir Winston Churchill, Lord
Montgomery and members of the Royal Family as members, they have selected to
sponsor Care Days in Cyprus and will pay directly to the service provider to
enable a limited number of cancer patients to make their own dreams come true.
Priority will be given to terminal
cancer patients but we will also make funds available for those who have
recently been diagnosed with cancer in the Paphos Region.
We hope to be able to offer up to 10 Care Days
Dreams a year valued at €250 each!!
If, however, a child with terminal cancer
wanted to go to Disneyland Paris, we would be able to consider paying the off
peak airfare for the child and one parent up to €500. Can you imagine the
happiness that this would bring?
What would be your Care Days Dream?
A
trip to the UK off peak to visit the family or paying for a family member to
come over to see you?
A night in a seaview room at
the beautiful 5 star Annabelle Hotel, or a seafront villa/apartment for a night?
A morning in a speed boat in
Latchi or a day trip on one of the many boat tours in Paphos?
A dinner for the patient and
partner at your favourite restaurant ?
A flight to beautiful Chania,
Crete?
These are just a few of the Care Days Dreams that we could make come true for
cancer patients, thanks to the generosity of the Winkle Club members and
contributions from wonderful friends.
But
what we really want is for YOUR dreams to come true.
Andrew and his partner well understand the
trauma caused by a diagnosis of cancer and Care Days was set up to help give
some respite from the fear and uncertainty and a break for those with cancer.
So far we have given a Care Day to over 120 people, but now we can offer a few
patients something even more amazing!
There
are three ways that you can apply:
1. By reference from your oncologist, or
oncology nurse.
2. By applying here on our website and
tell us why a Care Days Dream would mean so much to you. Your information will
of course be kept confidential.
3. A friend or carer may recommend you by applying through our website
I can imagine that some of the readers will
think “what is the catch? Surely nobody gives
something away for nothing?”
The fact is that Care Days costs are covered by ourselves and
Charlotte, who also does an amazing job for us on design, website and
administration. Added to that there really are some very, very kind and
generous people in Cyprus as the story below will explain to you and Care Days
owes a big thank you to the Paphos Post, Viva FM, Markos MY Hair, Beauty Salon
by Elena, The Annabelle Hotel, the Elysia Restaurant, the Sea Caves
Restaurant and the King Evelthon Hotel.
We were recently approached by a lady whose husband had just been unexpectedly
diagnosed with a particularly nasty form of terminal cancer. They were both
frightened and needed reassurance which I hope we were able to give them as
part of the Care Days service based on our own experience and we corresponded
every day for two weeks. They both enjoyed a Care Day, but at the same time I
had received an initial approach from the Chairman of the Winkle Club saying
that they would like to pay for some of the services direct. I immediately
realized that this could be the ideal way to offer Care Days Dreams and they
very kindly agreed a few weeks later.
Without making any promises I asked Mrs.X what would her husband’s dream be if
it could be fulfilled. She replied that he would love to fly to the UK for a hug with his son and to
play golf with him. Because the timing was critical as he was just about to start chemo, we agreed
to pay for his ticket, so we met them for four hours and talked about
everything that was on their mind and then we made the offer to pay for his
flight to the UK which they immediately rejected as they felt that we were
already doing enough for Care Days.
Two days later, God definitely was looking after us, as we had invited two
friends for dinner and I happened to mention what we were hoping to do with the
Winkle Club. They immediately said they would pay for the air ticket, and
brought the money round the next day. So, for those of you that doubt, there
really are some amazing people in Cyprus who are prepared to help others less
fortunate than themselves.
Mr. X flies to the Uk to play golf with his son very soon and the utter joy and
disbelief when we handed the ticket over was one of the most beautiful moments
of our lives and made us realise that this is what we must continue to do with
the generous sponsorship from the Winkle Club members.
Mrs. X commented: “Oh my goodness. You do not know how crucial the timing is for your email and
wonderful news. My husband had a dreadful day on Friday - I haven’t seen him
that low and it took a lot to bring him back. He felt so ill, hadn’t slept
properly and was exhausted which I think exaggerated the problem. Yesterday was
a better day and today better again so back on track but he is so fragile
emotionally." "Just read my husband your emails and he is absolutely delighted - very
emotional in a good way. He cannot really believe people he does not know
would do this for him and wanted to again express his massive thanks to
you and your friends at Care Days. Take care." "You have made our day, week and month - so thank you Care Days and your
friends. What Care Days has done for us is getting us through the dark days xx”
The patient above did not believe that his Care Days Dream could
come true, but it did!
We will be offering a very limited number of Dreams to those of
you that are fortunately not terminal and that they may be eligible.
