THE COURT DISMISSED A LAWSUIT BY 103 CITIZENS AGAINST THE STATE OVER THE MEASURES AGAINST THE CORONAVIRUS

 Filenews 17 July 2023

The Nicosia District Court dismissed a lawsuit by 103 adult and minor plaintiffs, requesting that the measures taken by the State to protect citizens from the Covid-19 pandemic be declared unconstitutional.

The lawsuit was directed against the Attorney General of the Republic, the then Minister of Health, Konstantinos Ioannou and members of the epidemiological team.

The Court dismissed the action on procedural grounds. In particular, the Court concluded that the applicants' continued failure to indicate their full addresses in the indictment and the fact that the minor applicants were not represented in the proceedings by both parents, nor were the appointments of their lawyers signed by both parents, constituted facts and irregularities which rendered the proceedings invalid and abusive.

The dismissal of the action also awarded lawyers' costs against the plaintiffs.

The lawsuit for the Attorney General of the Republic was handled by the Public Prosecutor of the Republic Mrs. Theano Mavromoustaki, the Senior Lawyer of the Republic Mrs. Elli Florentzou, the Lawyer of the Republic Mrs. Marianna Tsangari and the Lawyer of the Republic Mrs. Penelope Charalambous.
