The representative of the committee of the think tank for tourism, Michalis Demosthenous, condemns last week's outrages with taxi drivers outside arrivals at Paphos Airport. It highlights the unacceptable behaviour of taxi drivers who were involved in a fight in front of visitors.
Mr. Demosthenous suggests that the control and coordination of taxi drivers at Cyprus airports be undertaken by the managing company Hermes Airport according to specific procedures and job descriptions that will be agreed with all interested parties.
It also proposes that the competent authorities, Hermes Airport, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Licensing Authority immediately proceed with the training of taxi drivers for the needs of offering professional service (eg Tourist Conscience, Professional Behavior, Hospitable with polite behavior).
It also calls for taxi drivers to be assessed according to an agreed specific evaluation system in order to renew their professional licence.
