The Police recommend particular caution, following new reports and allegations of fraud through telephone calls, which continues to be committed with the aim of stealing money and personal data.
Specifically, the perpetrators of the fraud, communicate with citizens using Cyprus telephone numbers with the first two digits the numbers 94......, 95......, 96......, 97......, and 99......, and speaking in Greek, with a Greek accent, urge them to invest money in various investment projects or programs, through various online websites of investment companies.
According to the reports and complaints made to the Police, suspects avoid answering clarifying questions of citizens under various pretexts, for verification and confirmation of the details of the companies for which they claim to work and represent, resulting in serious suspicions that this is an attempt to deceive citizens and steal money or personal data, including data on their bank accounts.
It is recalled that, recently, complaints were made to the Police about a similar type of fraud, where citizens received phone calls from mobile phone numbers of Cypriot providers, 94......, 95......, 96......, 97......, and 99......, from unknown persons who spoke Greek, but with a foreign accent, who falsely reported to citizens that their investment in an online platform had yielded profits. The perpetrators of the fraud invited citizens to provide them with their personal and bank account details, in order to send them the money they won. The perpetrators also attempted to steal money from citizens' bank accounts.
Police caution, stressing that such telephone communications and allegations appear to be false and aimed at defrauding and stealing large sums of money.
