The Real Estate Agents Registration Council refers to an incident that "illustrates the emboldening of illegal real estate agents", noting that in the previous days, the Council's President, Marinos Kynairou, was attacked for cooperation by a woman, posing as a real estate agent to unsuspecting interested buyers.
In a relevant announcement, the Council states that initially the woman in question contacted Mr. Kynairou and asked him to allow her access to a villa with swimming pool, available for sale by his company on the Larnaka-Dhekelia road, to guide her customers interested buyers.
The President of the Real Estate Agents Registration Council, according to the statement, refused when he found it illegal and reported it in order to proceed against her criminal proceedings.
"Despite his negative answer, the defendant came back and sent a text message to Mr. Kynairou telling him that "if the reason why you are not selling the house is because you want a commission then there is no problem, we will give you. It can be divided and shared (the commission). Customers are too eager to buy the house and it would be a shame to miss this opportunity. It's up to you,'" the statement continued.
As noted by the Real Estate Agents Registration Council, "the complaint against her, however, brought to the surface other aspects, since it transpired that this person had been reported in the past for illegal real estate brokerage and in fact recently the court had issued against her a temporary order prohibiting her from exercising real estate agent activities until the hearing of her case", while adding that "the inspectors of the Council found that she continues her work undeterred despite the allegations against her'.
Moreover, the President of the Real Estate Agents Registration Council, Marinos Kynairou, states that "this case proves that illegal real estate has not disappeared despite the intense and coordinated efforts we make as the Real Estate Agents Registration Council to combat it".
"I once again strongly request our fellow citizens, who are interested in buying or renting a property, to address first and foremost for their own protection to licensed professional real estate agents. Our online platform https://ktimatomesites.com/ offer a variety of real estate options all over Cyprus, which are posted only by licensed real estate agents".
Finally, he says that the Council will continue with its efforts to combat the phenomenon and calls on all licensed Real Estate Agents and citizens to an alliance to protect the profession and tackle illegality.
At the same time, he makes it clear that if they find a licensed real estate agent working with illegals, they will be "relentless".
