HERMES AIRPORTS INAUGURATED PHOTOVOLTAIC PARKS AT LARNACA AND PAPHOS AIRPORTS

 Filenews 19 July 2023

The new Photovoltaic Park within Larnaka International Airport, with a capacity of 3.5 MWp, was inaugurated today, Wednesday, July 19, at a special ceremony by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Alexis Vafeadis and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hermes Airports, Mr. Christophe Petit.

At the same time, a photovoltaic park at Pafos airport has been in operation for a few months. Combined, the two photovoltaic parks will cover 28% of the annual energy needs of the country's two airports, contributing decisively to Hermes Airports' goal to further reduce its environmental footprint.

Larnaka Airport's photovoltaic plant, which was developed in an area of 36,000 m² within the airport, is expected to produce electricity of around 6 million kilowatt-hours annually. Similarly, the Pafos Airport Park is expected to produce 1.9 million kilowatt-hours annually. The total energy production in both photovoltaic parks of the airports corresponds to the annual consumption of more than 1320 households.

Speaking at the inauguration event, Hermes Airports' President Board of Directors, Christophe Petit, said: "Today is an important milestone in our journey towards a sustainable future, where renewable energy is at the centre. The photovoltaic park is proof of Hermes Airports' commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. Its operation will prevent the emission of more than 3,850 tons of CO₂ per year. This is the result of many hours of hard work, dedication and a shared vision between Hermes Airports and our partners Cypenergia, Iacovou Group and House of Investment.

We are particularly pleased that our photovoltaic park is put into operation, which confirms the continuous and dynamic investment we are making in proper environmental management and development, with emphasis on renewable energy sources".
