The prohibition of four- and three-wheeled vehicles from July 19 to August 20 between 21:00 and 07:00, is requested by the Municipality of Ayia Napa from the Government while strengthening the Traffic Law of the Municipality.
In an announcement, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, states that following the latest events regarding the movement of four- and three-wheeled vehicles, he informs that following a unanimous decision of the Ayia Napa Municipal Council, a letter has been sent to the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Anna Koukkidis-Prokopiou and the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works. Alexis Vafeadis, with a notification to the Chief of Police to promote the issuance of a relevant Decree for a total ban on quadricycles and tricycles immediately for the period from July 19 to August 20 during the hours of 21:00 until 07:00 and the issuance of an immediately relevant Decree for a total ban on quadricycles and tricycles directly on main road networks where a large mass of people move throughout the day and night".
In addition, "licenses and day-offs of the employees of the Municipality have been suspended for the reinforcement of the Traffic Police and 3 separate units consisting of 4 people each have been created, which undertake immediately, as of today, full duties". "All teams will supervise various key points of the roads of our Municipality," it said.
In addition, it is stressed that "discussions had been and are being held for the reinforcement of an additional police force, which took place a month ago. Additional and further reinforcement has taken place since last night and is expected to increase further immediately."
Also, "a meeting was held with the entrepreneurs of the sector and the Association of Vehicle Rental Entrepreneurs and after a relevant extensive discussion, their contribution was asked for the mitigation and elimination of the problem, who assured of their support so that there is further control over who will be the operators of these vehicles."
It is underlined that "the Municipality of Ayia Napa is studying a relevant Memorandum with its legal advisors regarding all the long-standing problems of Ayia Napa, in order to require the promotion of legislation to resolve them".
"We will continue any coordinated actions within the framework allowed by law in order to control the above problem", concludes the Mayor of Ayia Napa.
