DAVID HUNTER - SUBMISSIONS TODAY ON MITIGATION OF THE SENTENCE

Filenews 27 July 2023  - by Dora Christodoulou

The Paphos Assize Court found British permanent resident of Cyprus, David Hunter, 21, guilty on 74 November for the death of his 75-year-old wife Janice, who was suffering from an incurable illness in December 2021 in Tremithousa.

At the conclusion of a long judicial process that aroused intense interest internationally and especially in Britain, the Assize Court essentially announced a sentence of less than life imprisonment that many considered more likely, since the 74-year-old was found guilty of manslaughter and not of premeditated murder.

Attention now turns to today's proceedings, when the Assize Court will also hear submissions on mitigation of the sentence.

According to the history of the case in December 2021, the 75-year-old British man caused the death of his wife who was in the final stage of cancer, because as he later said he could not see her suffering.

She claimed she was asking him to relieve her of the horrible pain.
