Police arrested five people yesterday as part of an investigation into drug cases in the districts of Limassol, Famagusta and Nicosia. Initially, around 11:20 a.m. yesterday, members of the Limassol OPE stopped a car driven by a 29-year-old man in Limassol for inspection.
In a subsequent check, cannabis weighing approximately eight grams was found inside the vehicle, and then the house where the 29-year-old resides, along with a second person aged 28, was searched.
During the search of the house, cannabis weighing approximately 152 grams, cocaine weighing approximately 14 grams, a precision scale with traces of cannabis, as well as the amount of €80 were found in various places.
The above findings were received as evidence, while the two suspects were arrested on court warrants and detained to facilitate interrogations.
Also, at around 9.40pm yesterday, members of the Famagusta YKAN, in a search conducted at the house where a 27-year-old and a 33-year-old reside, in the Famagusta district, where a small quantity of cannabis and the amount of €5,095, 8,750 dinars, as well as a number of phones and sim cards, hoods, gloves and a pistol model were found and received as evidence.
The two suspects were arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations. It should be noted that a court arrest warrant was pending against the 33-year-old in a case involving methamphetamine weighing more than two kilos in Limassol.
At the same time, during a coordinated operation that took place yesterday afternoon by members of the YKAN in Nicosia, searches were carried out in two houses, where in total, the amount of €4,240 and cannabis weighing approximately 150 grams were located and received as evidence.
In relation to the above cases, two persons aged 30 and 25 were arrested and detained.

The three persons who appeared before the Permanent Assize Court of Pafos regarding a case of possession of more than 96,000 firecrackers did not respond. The offence they face is the illegal possession and transport of explosives.
The three persons referred to a direct trial before the Permanent Assize Court, which sits in Paphos, replied not to admit and the Assize Court today set the case for continuation of the court proceedings on October 24, 2023. He also ordered that they be released with conditions.
According to the history of the case as reported to the Court, 96,140 pieces of firecrackers were located and confiscated in a wooded area in Paphos, in the area of the Tzielefos bridge.
After evaluating information, members of the Drug Enforcement Administration spotted three men unloading boxes from two cars. Subsequent examinations revealed 34 cardboard boxes containing 10,180 firecrackers in the first car in which a 96-year-old man had travelled to the area.
In the second car, in which a 31-year-old driver and a 23-year-old man had travelled to the area, another 52 boxes containing 77,180 firecrackers were found. All three persons were arrested for the offence of illegal possession and transport of explosives.
In addition to the 34-year-old's possession, a shoulder bag containing more than €3,000 was found, the origin of which he did not give satisfactory explanations.
Further examinations by police pyrotechnics revealed that these were factory cylindrical paper firecrackers.
