The Police and specifically the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN, proceeded to a new seizure of a large quantity of drugs, following international cooperation with the German authorities, as well as with the Department of Customs.

Specifically, 36 kilos of cannabis plant matter were seized, while a 46-year-old man was arrested for the purpose of investigating a drug trafficking case.

The large quantity of drugs was found in two travel luggage of the 46-year-old, who flew to Cyprus from a third country, with a stopover in Germany, last Thursday, June 29. During the trip, his two bags were transported on a separate flight to Germany and then transported on a separate flight to Cyprus.

After the competent authorities of Germany provided the Cyprus Police with relevant information about the quantity of cannabis in the luggage, YKAN, in cooperation with the Department of Customs, proceeded to collect the two pieces of luggage upon their arrival in Cyprus. When checking the luggage, it was found that it belonged to the 46-year-old suspect.

Shortly after 4.30pm today, while collecting the luggage from the 46-year-old suspect, he was arrested by members of the YKAN. Questioned by members of the police, the 46-year-old allegedly confessed to possession and import of the quantity of cannabis. He was taken into custody for the purpose of investigating the case of importing drugs and possession of drugs with intent to supply to another person.

The District Unit of YKAN in Larnaka is investigating the case.

A serious road accident resulting in serious injury to a motorcyclist occurred in Limassol.

According to information, at around 17:15 a vehicle attempted an illegal turn to the right of a gas station and under circumstances that are being investigated stopped the course of a motorcycle that attempted overtaking.

The 25-year-old driver of the motorcycle was taken to Limassol General Hospital with serious injuries and is undergoing surgery.

On the other hand, the 23-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured, while samples for breathalyzer and narcotest showed a negative indication.

Members of the Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the case of assault and stabbing of a 25-year-old man, for which a second suspect, a 41-year-old man, is still being sought.

The 21-year-old suspect is also being investigated for drug trafficking, as well as possession of explosives, after a quantity of methamphetamine, a large amount of money, and a firearm bullet were found during his arrest.

The 21-year-old was found at a residence in the Nicosia district, where members of the Police went yesterday afternoon to locate and arrest him. He was wanted under a court arrest warrant issued for the purpose of investigating the case of assault and injury of a 25-year-old man, committed in Nicosia last Friday, June 30.

The attack, according to the evidence under investigation, took place around 4:30 pm on Friday, when three people attacked the 25-year-old while he was at a premises in Nicosia. During the attack, one of the three attackers allegedly stabbed the 25-year-old.

The 25-year-old was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where it was found that he had a chest wound near his left armpit, while according to the attending doctors, he may also have a superficial wound to his left lung. He is being treated at the General Hospital, with his health condition out of danger.

Upon locating the 21-year-old suspect yesterday afternoon, he presented himself to members of the Police as another person, reporting false information in relation to his identity. After examinations established his true identity, he was subsequently arrested pursuant to the court warrant issued for his arrest.

A search of his residence and two vehicles found a quantity of methamphetamine, with a gross weight of approximately 34 grams, the sum of 7,720 euros, as well as a full cartridge of a firearm. The 21-year-old was arrested for flagrant offences, while later yesterday he was also arrested on a new court warrant, issued for the purpose of investigating a case of impersonation, unlawful possession of drugs with intent to supply another person, money laundering, and possession of explosives.

In the case of wounding the 25-year-old, a 41-year-old man is still wanted, whose photo and details have been released by the police, in order to collect information that may lead to his location.

The ICF Nicosia and the YKAN (Nicosia District Unit) continue the examinations.

Gunfire on a 77-year-old man's house in Limassol by a person[s] unknown this morning.

As he stated in his complaint this morning, shots were fired at his home and vehicle.

Examinations at the scene show that the incident took place yesterday around midnight. He said in testimony that he did not suspect anyone.

The scene has been cordoned off and tests are underway.

An unfortunate little girl died of cardiac arrest at 8 pm, at Limassol Hospital where she was transported injured by ambulance after the accident, according to an update from the British Bases.

The child was riding on a jet ski driven by a relative (probably her father). Under circumstances that are being investigated, it collided with a second jet ski driven by a member of the group, according to initial information.

After the accident, the child was taken ashore, where bathers rushed to provide First Aid until an ambulance arrived at the scene. The attending doctors of the Hospital made efforts to keep the child alive, but this was not possible.

According to the SBA Police, which is investigating the circumstances of the accident, she is a 6-year-old girl from Ukraine.

Two people were arrested late on Saturday after trying to leave Larnaca airport on travel documents that did not belong to them.

According to police, shortly after 4pm a 24-year-old third country national living legally in Cyprus and a woman of the same age with European nationality presented themselves at Larnaca airport for a flight to Europe.

During passport control, officers stopped them when they doubted the European passport the man was using was not his as he did not look like the photograph.

After further questioning the man revealed his true identity and he was arrested.

At the same time, suspicions arose against the woman accompanying him, who after questioning admitted to providing him with the passport with the aim of helping him leave for the European country his flight was headed to.

They were both arrested on charges of impersonation and assisting a third country national to move through the Repubic.
