TARGETED CAMPAIGN AGAINST UNDECLARED WORK

Pancyprian inspections of cleaning companies, security companies, offices and services to combat undeclared work

Specifically, the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, in the context of the effort to combat undeclared work and control compliance with basic labour legislation, informs that, during April 2023, targeted inspections were carried out on a nationwide basis in cleaning companies, security companies, offices/services.

Cleaning Companies:

1. Inspections were carried out at 23 premises, where 23 employers were identified. The total number of workers identified was 60. (22 men and 38 women). Specifically, 15 were Greek Cypriots, 7 European Union citizens and 38 third country foreigners.

2. 7 undeclared employees were identified, 2 Infringement Notices and 2 Fines of €4,500 were issued.

Security Companies:

1. Inspections were carried out at 59 premises, where 59 employers were identified. The total number of workers identified was 97. (63 men and 34 women). Specifically, 60 were Greek Cypriots, 33 European Union citizens and 4 third country foreigners.

2. 2 undeclared employees were identified, 3 Infringement Notices and 3 Fines of €5,500 were issued.

Offices/Services:

1. Inspections were carried out at 138 premises, where 109 employers and 29 self-employed persons were identified. The total number of workers identified was 427. (158 men and 269 women). Specifically, 309 were Greek Cypriots, 47 citizens of the European Union and 72 foreigners of third countries.

2. 2 undeclared self-employed and 3 undeclared employees were identified, 4 Infringement Notices and 3 Fines of €3,600 were issued.

It is noted that, according to the provisions of the relevant Legislation, in case of detection of an undeclared person in the Social Insurance Fund, an administrative fine of €500 multiplied by 7 months is issued, unless it is proven by the employer that the violation period was shorter. Where it is established that the infringement period was longer, the fine shall be multiplied by the actual months.
