MASSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN LIMASSOL

Cyprus Mail 15 June 2023 - by Malia Chung

The world’s community of environmental economists will flock to Cyprus this June, as Limassol welcomes one of the largest scientific conferences to have ever gathered on the island.

Held from the June 27-30, the 28th Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE 2023) includes 700 participants.

This year, the EAERE 2023 has been co-organised by the Cyprus Institute, the Cyprus University of Technology and the University of Cyprus and will be hosted on the campuses of both the Cyprus University of Technology and the Limassol Carob Mill.

The conference aims to bring together as many environmentally interested individuals as possible. As a result, several parts of the conference will be broadcast online.

In addition to the 500 presentations offered, EAERE has announced that important environmental and economic policy issues will also be discussed.

“With human activities increasingly pushing our planet beyond its boundaries, using economics to address issues such as the climate and biodiversity crises, depletion of natural resources, pollution, and challenges in the agri-food sector is now more important than ever,” said Theodoros Zachariadis, professor at the Cyprus Institute.

“The planetary emergencies call for interdisciplinary approaches to environmental issues and a stronger interaction between scientific disciplines. EAERE’s community is pioneering in such a scientific discourse – and this will become evident in this year’s conference.”

This year’s conference is supported by the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts and sponsored by the European Commission’s representation in Cyprus and the municipality of Limassol.
