Members of the Police arrested a 33-year-old man for the purpose of investigating a case of possession and distribution of child pornography. The suspect was taken into custody, with the Electric Crime Subdivision investigating.

The investigation of the case began after information received through Europol and reported that a user of an account on a social networking platform sent child sexual abuse material to other users of the same platform. Members of the Cybercrime Subdivision conducted tests that revealed evidence against the 33-year-old suspect.

Shortly after 11.00 noon on Saturday, the members of the Sub-Directorate located the 33-year-old suspect and proceeded to arrest him, with a court warrant issued for the purpose of investigating the case. In searches of the suspect's residence, premises and vehicle, a laptop computer and a mobile phone were found, which were confiscated for forensic examinations.

Two persons were arrested by members of the Police for the purpose of investigating cases of theft, extortion of money, and burglaries, committed in Limassol and Nicosia.

According to the Police, in Nicosia, a 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an ongoing case of a store burglary. The 31-year-old suspect was spotted inside the store, working at the premises.

Specifically, shortly after midnight, a fruit shop worker in the area of Strovolos, spotted the 31-year-old inside the premises and after restraining him, the Police were informed.

Members of the Police rushed to the scene and after examinations at the scene revealed the burglary of the premises, they proceeded to arrest the suspect.

A small amount of money was found in the suspect's possession, which he allegedly confessed to stealing from the premises. The suspect allegedly confessed to committing another burglary, committed at the same premises, last March.

At the same time, in Limassol, a 54-year-old man was arrested for the purpose of investigating three cases of theft and extortion of money by false representations, committed between March, 2022 and January, 2023, at a kiosk and two residences, in Limassol.

The 54-year-old was located and arrested last night, pursuant to court warrants issued against him, by members of the Limassol Crime Prevention Unit – OPE. The cases of theft and extortion of money are being investigated by the Agios Ioannis Police Station and the Limassol ICF.

An optician's shop owner was reportedly attacked with a knife when he came face-to-face with the burglar in the early hours of Sunday after being alerted by the alarm system.

According to the Spokesperson of the Pafos Police Authority and Head of the Pafos ICF, Michalis Nicolaou, at around 04:50 on Sunday morning the alarm system of an optical store sounded on a pedestrian street in Paphos.

The alarm system sounded at the residence of its owners and through their closed circuit they perceived the presence of an unknown person, who – according to the complaint – was inside the store.

The owners, father and son aged 56 and 27, respectively, went to the store to stop the perpetrator, while on the way they also informed the police. When they arrived at the store, the attacker had reportedly fled the scene. They searched for him in the surrounding area and allegedly spotted him hiding in an adjacent field.

Then, Nicolaou said, they tried to stop him, but he allegedly pulled a knife and injured the 27-year-old in the right wrist.

The attacker then allegedly fled the scene on a bicycle and is wanted.

The 27-year-old visited the Accident and Emergency Department of Paphos General Hospital where he was sutured six times to his right wrist.

According to police, further examinations revealed that the perpetrator allegedly took about 100 pairs of glasses from the optical store, several of which were found at the scene and where he was hiding.

The alleged attacker is described as a person aged 50-55 who had his face covered with a surgical mask. He also wore a joker hat and wore a black jacket and shorts, also black.

The scene has been cordoned off and scientifically examined. According to Mr. Nicolaou, the attacker achieved entry after shattering the store's side glass.

Police are investigating a case of shop burglary, theft, robbery, stabbing and injury. The examinations are continued by the ICF Pafos.

The Pafos District Court issued three-day detention orders against three persons, and a two-day detention order against a woman for burglary and theft.

According to the Police, the three persons appeared on Saturday at the Pafos District Court as suspects in a case of conspiracy to commit a felony, residential burglary and theft as well as illegal stay in the territory of the Republic, as revealed by further examinations.

Moreover, in another case, the Pafos District Court issued a two-day detention order to a woman in connection with a case of residential burglary.

The offences he faces are conspiracy to commit a felony and burglary of a dwelling.

The woman was arrested and is in two-day detention.

Twelve owners of leisure centres were reported last night in Paphos. They did not hold licenses to broadcast music and sell drinks.

In three cases, equipment was confiscated.
