Police in Limassol have made two arrests to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of conspiracy to commit a felony and theft from a residence. They are two residents of Limassol, 21 and 17 years old, who were arrested yesterday under court warrants and detained.

The theft was committed on the afternoon of June 12, 2023, in Limassol. According to what she reported to the police, an 82-year-old woman, around 17:00, while she was at her home, entered through the open entrance door, in the living room of the house, an unknown young man, who asked her to give him some water. The complainant went to the kitchen and returned with a glass of water, which she offered to the stranger.

After the young man left, the 82-year-old found that her bag, which was in the living room, was missing a sum of money, jewellery and her personal documents.

Police examinations secured testimony against two persons, aged 21 and 17, who were arrested yesterday under court warrants and detained to facilitate interrogations.

The ICF Limassol is investigating the case.

The Ministry of Interior announces that the Cyprus Police has arrested a public official of the Civil Registry and Migration Department, in a case concerning the issuance of residence permits to third-country nationals.

The whole case is being further investigated by the Nicosia Crime Detection Department, in full cooperation with the Ministry.

It is emphasized that such actions and behaviours are not tolerated and the Ministry of Interior will take all appropriate actions to ensure that similar behaviours will not be repeated.

Police arrested seven people on Friday to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of obtaining a residence permit in Cyprus with false documents.

In a statement, the Police Communication Branch said the arrests of the seven persons, aged 40, 31, 33, 44, 30, 27 and 21, were carried out under judicial arrest warrants during a coordinated police operation.

The seven arrested were brought today before the Nicosia District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against them.

They are being investigated, among others, for offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to defraud, forgery, circulation of a false document and obtaining registration by false representations, while the 40-year-old is also being investigated for offences of corruption, decimation of a public official, abuse of office and neglect of official duty.

The ICF Headquarters is investigating the case.

Comments by the Minister of the Interior

Earlier, the Ministry of Interior, in an announcement, said that the Cyprus Police arrested a public official of the Civil Registry and Migration Department in a case concerning the issuance of residence permits to third-country nationals. He emphasizes that he contributes to the investigation of the case in full cooperation with the ICF of Nicosia.

It is noted that such actions and behaviours are not tolerated and the Ministry of Interior will take all appropriate actions to ensure that similar behaviours will not be repeated.

In a post on Twitter, the Minister of Interior, Constantinos Ioannou, expressed his disappointment over the incident.

Police arrested four people yesterday as part of an investigation into a case of conspiracy to commit a felony, burglary of a building and theft, malicious damage and illegal entry.

Four men, two 52-year-olds, a 39-year-old man and a 56-year-old man, were detained to facilitate interrogations.

The arrest of the above persons was preceded by information to the Police about two suspicious vehicles, which were parked near a hotel, on the main road Kalopanayiotis – Kykkos.

Members of the Police went to the area, where they located the persons in question and proceeded to on-the-spot examinations.

Tests revealed that there had been a burglary at a hotel in the area, where a large quantity of copper pipes, metal and other objects was stolen.
