The Larnaca-Famagusta Permanent Assize Court on Wednesday imposed a ten-year prison sentence on a 33-year-old woman after finding her guilty in a case involving the importation of a quantity of cannabis weighing 16 kg and 800 grams.

According to an announcement by the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, "the quantity of drugs was found after a check by the Anti-Narcotics Service, in cooperation with Customs Officers, in the luggage of the 33-year-old, who arrived on the afternoon of March 18 at Larnaka airport."

After checking the 33-year-old's luggage, 13 nylon packages containing cannabis plant matter, weighing 16kg and 800g, were found. The 33-year-old was arrested for the offences of unlawful importation of drugs, illegal possession of drugs and possession of drugs with intent to supply to other persons."

The Famagusta District Court today imposed a 24-month prison sentence on a 38-year-old man after finding him guilty in a case involving the facilitation of illegal entry of third-country nationals into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, committed on March 1st.

According to an announcement by the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, "on the morning of March 1, the radars of the Port and Maritime Police detected a suspicious target in the sea area southeast of Cape Greco. Shortly before 12 noon, a vessel of the Port and Maritime Police located and intercepted in the specific area, a small boat, with 18 people, 15 men, one woman and two minors on board."

The passengers of the boat were safely transported to the Ayia Napa marina and tests carried out found that the boat left the Syrian coast on the evening of February 28. According to testimonies obtained, the driver of the boat was a 38-year-old man, who was arrested under a court warrant and detained to facilitate interrogations."

The remaining 17 passengers of the vessel, after the completion of the relevant procedures, were transferred to the accommodation center "Pournara", while legal proceedings were launched against the 38-year-old and the Famagusta District Court imposed on him today, Wednesday, June 14, a sentence of 24 months in prison.

Beef and ground beef, weighing a total of 34 kg, were found at the Turkish Cypriot checkpoint at the Agios Dometios barricade.

According to Turkish Cypriot media, the quantity was transported by a 29-year-old person with his car who was "arrested". This is almost 25 kg of red meat and the rest in minced meat.

The person did not provide documents for this quantity and after it was found that the transport was smuggled, he was arrested, according to a relevant statement by the "police" in the occupied areas.

Police were mobilized after a bomb exploded around one in the morning outside an insurance company in Nicosia and specifically on Athalassas Avenue.

Members of the Police arrived at the scene and are carrying out investigations.

Police in Limassol arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the 100 grams of cannabis resin that arrived from abroad and would end up in a 34-year-old man's post office box.

According to the Police, as part of the investigation of the case, evidence emerged against a 35-year-old man from the Limassol district, who was arrested last night on the basis of a court warrant and taken into custody.

The drugs were found by customs officers in a package that arrived in Cyprus from another European country in the previous days, while further examinations revealed that the package would end up in a post office box in Limassol, which belongs to the 34-year-old.

A warrant had been issued against the 34-year-old based on which he was arrested while a search of his home found a small amount of cannabis, weighing about 1.4 grams.

The YKAN (Limassol Unit) continues the examinations.

The arrest of a 30-year-old man was carried out by the Pafos Police against whom a European arrest warrant was pending.

According to the Spokesperson of the Pafos Police Authority and Head of the Pafos ICF, Michalis Nicolaou, on 14.6.23 at 13:40, a 30-year-old person arrived at Pafos airport from Germany, for whom a European arrest warrant issued by Poland was pending in order to serve a one-year prison sentence imposed by a local Court regarding drug possession cases.

The offence was committed in May 2014 in Poland. On Wednesday, the 30-year-old was arrested and is in custody. Extradition procedures to the Polish authorities are also under way.

A coordinated operation involving members of the police department of various departments was organized last night simultaneously in the areas of the municipality of Geroskipou and the communities of Emba and Chlorakas for crime prevention.

According to the police, 121 arrests and checks of vehicles were carried out and 35 complaints emerged, mostly concerning traffic violations.

One of the drivers did not hold a driver's license while vehicles that had been written off, vehicles that did not hold registration, fitness and safety certificates were found.
