June 26 has been established by the United Nations as the "World Day against Drugs and Illicit Trafficking" with the aim of raising public awareness, as drugs continue to be one of the most important problems of societies worldwide.
It is a day of reminder, reflection and self-criticism. A day of activation and participation of the whole society in the struggle for their eradication, a daily and continuous struggle for life itself. This day gives us the impetus to look for the causes of the problem and turn to prevention.
As part of its social policy, the Pafos Municipality organises information actions on drug use. Specifically:
1. In collaboration with the Preventive Mental Health Nursing Program "Excelixis", in the framework of the organization of the Marine Water Polo Tournament on June 24, at the Municipal Bathrooms, Program Officers will be at the site from 11.00 a.m. to inform the public about issues related to addictive substances/therapeutic programs and distribution of information material of the Cyprus Addictions Authority.
2. The Counselling Centre of the Municipality of Pafos during June 2023, organizes experiential workshops in Summer Schools, in collaboration with the Pafos Nautical Club, APOP and the Atlas Association.
These actions aim to further inform children and their parents in an effort to eliminate the causes that lead to addictions.
The Pafos Municipality attaches great importance to offering creative outlets to young people, which is why it supports and promotes sports, culture and other areas that cultivate body and spirit and open the horizons of their thinking.
