THEY WANTED TO EXPOSE THE RUSSIAN, NOT KILL HIM

Filenews 19 May 2023 - by Ioanna Mantzipia

The Legal Service decided yesterday not to prosecute two Russians, aged 62 and 56, as the plans to murder their compatriot, a journalist, resident of Paphos, seem not to be confirmed by the investigations and examinations of the ICF of Limassol.

The information that reached the authorities last Friday, referred to the arrival of a 56-year-old executioner, ordered by a 62-year-old Russian, who also lives permanently in Paphos. The investigators of the ICF of Limassol in cooperation with the ICF of Pafos proceeded to the arrest of the two persons for the crime under investigation of conspiracy to commit murder. The two appeared before the Limassol Court, which ordered their detention.

However, examinations and investigation of the case did not reveal satisfactory testimony linking the two Russians to the offence of conspiracy to murder or other criminal act. Their reservation request expires today. According to reliable sources in "F", the Legal Service decided to release the 62-year-old, while for the 56-year-old alleged executioner who arrived a few days ago in Cyprus, the instructions are to be immediately deported from our island.

The investigation of the case shows that the 62-year-old Russian and the journalist have personal and financial differences. The two arrested interrogators claimed that they had no criminal plan against the journalist and claimed that their aim was to expose him for some serious issues he is dealing with.

The same information says that the Russian journalist is known to the authorities for his political positions and views against Moscow and Vladimir Putin. In fact, from time to time, through his social media, he rails with posts against Russia. Positions in stark contrast to those expressed by the 62-year-old and the 56-year-old.

For its part, the Cyprus Police wants to keep the matter as far away from the spotlight as possible. As we were told by a police source, the examinations will continue, despite the fact that no criminal offence has arisen, for the time being.
