The utilisation of the natural
gas resources of the Republic of Cyprus is of high priority for our
government, the President of the Republic Mr Nikos Christodoulides said,
adding that his government has a clear direction when it comes to this issue.
In his remarks to reporters
after a Workshop organised by the Ministry of Energy with the participation
of hydrocarbon companies, which he addressed, the President of the Republic
said that the government is taking into account three key facts.
The first has to do with the
high prices of electricity in the internal market of Cyprus, the second
concerns the effort by the EU to become independent from Russian natural gas,
and the third concerns the prospects of Eastern Mediterranean combined with
our excellent relations with the neighbouring states.
Invited to comment on the
elections in Turkey, the President of the Republic said that he considers
this as an important milestone, and congratulated President Erdogan on his
re-election.
He also reiterated our side’s
readiness for the resumption of talks where they were left at Crans Montana,
adding that following the electoral process in Turkey ‘‘we hope to have
developments soon.’’
Invited to comment on what the
US Ambassador to Cyprus has stated in a recent interview to a Cypriot
newspaper, the President of the Republic said that ‘’I welcome the statements
of the US Ambassador on all issues. I believe that her references on all
issues are important and in line with our approach both with regard to the
issue of sanctions and the response by the Republic of Cyprus, as well as the
future of our bilateral relations that have evolved to a very important
degree during the last few years.’’
