2023 will find Paphos with a modern central public transport station, which essentially marks the practical start of the procedures for transforming Paphos into a smart city. The reason is that planning for modern public transport plays a central role in the cases of cities turning into smart cities.
The works in Karavella are now in the final stage, so that the city can acquire the first and so far only public transport station of this level. At the same time, most of the parking area that will surround it has already been given for use to the public of Pafos.
In addition to the main station, a total of 173 points have been categorized into three categories for changes, depending on whether the bus stops can accommodate eight waiting passengers or four, or if they are simply points where there is no shelter, but only a sign indicating a bus stop.
The preferred bidder will bear the cost of installing the stops, their maintenance and any repairs that may be needed during the 10-year contract signed. After the expiration of the contract, the bus stops will be delivered to the Municipality in fully operational condition.
The new canopies will be modern constructions in terms of construction material, with European standards, will offer wi-fi, will include screens for advertising and bus schedules.
