MAJOR ROAD WORKS

 


On the Nicosia – Limassol highway (A1), from Kalispera lights to the Pentaschinos river, from 28/02/2023 and for a period of six months, from Monday to Thursday, between the hours of 09:30 – 13:30, works will be carried out removal, transfer and repositioning of signs on the highway, in the direction of Limassol. During the execution of the works, the left traffic lane on the highway, in the direction of Limassol, will be closed for approximately 100 metres and the traffic will be diverted to the right traffic lane.

On the Limassol-Nicosia highway, at the Sia exit and at the entrance from Sia to the highway, up to the Mosfilotis bridge, in the period 5/15/2023 – 5/31/2023, water pipeline installation works will be carried out by the Development Department Waters. During the works, the exit to Sia of the Limassol-Nicosia highway in the direction of Nicosia and the entrance from Sia to the highway in the direction of Nicosia will be closed and traffic to Sia and Nicosia will be diverted through the Kornos Interchange through the old Nicosia – Limassol road.

On the Paphos - Limassol highway, in the period 8/5/2023 - 15/6/2023, from 20:00 at night until 05:30 the next day, every day except Fridays, weekends and holidays, road surface maintenance works will be carried out and in both directions. During the works, traffic will be diverted from adjacent exits.

On the Paphos - Limassol highway and on the Limassol bypass road, the Forestry Department will carry out pruning of the trees and bushes of the central island, as follows:

(a) In the period 11/5/2023 – 19/6/2023, between the hours of 08:00 – 17:00, in the section from the exit to Kourris Dam to Petra tou Romiou.

(b) On Sunday 14/5/2023, between the hours of 06:00 – 13:00, in the section from the uneven roundabout of Germasogeia to the uneven roundabout of Agios Athanasios.

(c) On Sundays 21 and 28/5/2023, between the hours of 06:00 – 13:00, on the section of the Paphos – Limassol highway, from the exit to Agios Sylas to the uneven roundabout of the new Port.

During the works, the right traffic lane will be partially closed in both directions for a length of 1500m. and traffic will be diverted to the left lane.

Also in the province of Larnaca, on the highways Larnaca Airport-Rizoelia roundabout up to the area of Nisos, in the period 15/05/2023 – 07/07/2023, every day except weekends and public holidays, between the hours 08:30 – 15:30, there will be plant pruning works on the central islands of the highways, by the Forestry Department. During the works, the lane adjacent to the central island will be closed in both directions and traffic will be diverted to the adjacent lane.

Works by the Forestry Department will also be carried out on the motorways Larnaca Airport-Rizoelia roundabout and Kalos Chorio-Kofinos roundabout, in the period 15/05/2023 – 07/07/2023, every day except weekends and public holidays, between the hours of 08:30 – 15:30, for pruning the plants on the slopes of the highways. During the works, the left lane of the motorways adjacent to the works will be closed in both directions and traffic will be diverted to the adjacent lane.

In Nicosia and specifically in Lakatamia, works will be carried out on Tseriou Avenue and Strovolou Street, from Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue to Pefkou Street, from Friday 12/5/2023 and for a period of 20 months, as part of the improvement/construction of the Avenues Hippokratos, Argyroupolis and Section of Tseri Avenue and Strovolou Street. At the same time, during the same period, as part of the reconstruction of Hippocrates Avenue, Themistokleous Street and Areos Avenue will be closed from their junction with Themistokleous Street to Nikias Street and Kentaurou Street respectively.

In the province of Nicosia, at the Tseri bypass (Halepiano road), from Saturday May 6, 2023, from 7.00 in the morning and for a period of six (6) months, works will be carried out at the junction with the road under construction that will join the Perimetriko Motorway. The traffic lanes will be moved slightly south for a period of 3 months and then further north for another 3 months.

In Tseri, in the period 6/3/2023 – 26/5/2023, within the framework of the "Road within Tseri" Project, the third phase of the works is to be implemented. Specifically, with the opening of a section of Analionta Street, the following streets will be completely closed:

– Theodosis Pieridis from the junction with Tevkrou Anthia to the junction with Protomagias (Agios Andronikos Church),

– Tevkrou Anthia from the confluence with Theodosis Pieridis to the confluence with Amathustos, and

– Sotiris Papalazarou from the junction with Tevkrou Anthia to the backyard of the 2nd Primary School 

During the above phase, drivers heading from Nicosia towards Analionta and Marki are requested to use Protomagias street and then Analionta street. Drivers from Nicosia heading towards the Halepiana area are requested to use Filias, Amathustos and Tevkrou Anthia streets. Drivers heading from Analionta to Nicosia should use Posidonos, Andrea Kesta and Makariou streets. For all the above traffic detours there will be appropriate temporary markings which drivers should follow.

Also within the framework of the "Road within Tseri" Project, in the period 24/4/2023 - 4/8/2023, the fourth phase of the works is to be implemented. Specifically, a section of Strovolou Street will be closed from its junction with Agios Georgiou Street to its junction with Pentelis Street. During the above phase, drivers heading to and from Nicosia are requested to use Agios Georgios, Agia Sofia, Markos Drakos, Pentelis streets and the section of Strovolou Street, which will remain open to traffic. For the above traffic detour there will be appropriate temporary markings, which drivers are encouraged to follow.

In Tseri, Nicosia province, from September 1, 2022, works will be carried out on the Road within Tseri, which will last 78 weeks and is expected to be completed by February 28, 2024. Works will be carried out within the Municipality of Tseri to upgrade the main road that passes through the Municipality. More specifically, the works will include the construction of a two-lane road (with additional clockwise lanes at the traffic lights) within the Municipality of Tseri for a length of approximately 2.5 kilometers. It also includes the construction of sections of bypass roads (K. Misiaulis, Salaminas, T. Anthia, S. Papalazarou, etc.), in a total area of approximately 600 meters, which contribute to the main road. In the project, a small roundabout will be built connecting Strovolos and Agios Georgios streets at its northern end. Along the road, parking spaces will be created on both sides to serve the commercial areas of the Municipality as well as the two Primary Schools included in the project. The project also includes the construction of sidewalks, the installation of traffic lights, the undergrounding of all utilities, horizontal and vertical signage, the installation of new street lighting and other related works. Depending on each phase of the works, the relevant announcements will be issued that will describe the works to be performed as well as the corresponding traffic regulations.

On the Larnaca-Dekelia coastal road, at a point opposite the Larnaca Marine Club and in both directions of the road, in the period 10/2/2023 – 10/6/2023, works will be carried out as part of the construction works of the "Improvement of the Coastal Road" Project Larnaca - Dekelia Phase C". Traffic will be diverted to Navarinou Street for about 650m. 

Also within the framework of the "Improvement of the Larnaca - Dekelia Coastal Road, Phase C" Project, the works that started on September 16, 2022, from the Nauticos Club roundabout to the junction to Pyla, will continue to be carried out next to the road boundaries for another three months, until August, 2023.

Also in the province of Larnaca, on Friday 19/05/2023, the reconstruction works of the Ormidia - Xylofago road will begin, which will last for approximately 12 months, until the end of May 2024. The Project is an improvement of a part of the existing road that connects the community Ormideia with the old Larnaca - Dekelia - Famagusta road. The section of the existing road that is being improved begins immediately after the exit from the residential area (near the junction with Menelaou Ludemi Street) and ends at the junction with the old road Larnaca – Dekelia – Famagusta. 

In the district of Limassol, on the Zakaki-Asoma road, in the period 3/5/2023 – 31/5/2023, between the hours of 07:00 – 16:00, every day except Sunday, excavation and installation of a pipeline will be carried out for the needs of SYL by a private Contracting Company, on a section of the road. During the works, one traffic lane will be closed at all times for a length of 120m. approximately and traffic will be managed with temporary traffic lights.

In Germasogeia, as part of the "Improvement of the Bypass Road of Germasogeia, Phase A" project, on Tuesday 16/5/2023, the uphill lane of Agia Paraskevi Street, south of the roundabout at the junction of M. Theodorakis Avenue with Agia Paraskevi Street and Mylou Street, allowing the entrance to the Central Area of Germasogeia. The rest of the traffic arrangements remain as they are since the work on the Project "Improvement of the Bypass Road of Germasogeia, Phase A" continues as normal.

While the work on project "Improvement of the Bypass Road of Germasogeia, Phase A", continues normally, in the context of the next phase, in the period 16/3/2023 - 20/6/2023, the following traffic arrangements will apply:

(a) The eastern side of Agia Paraskevi Street from its junction with Patmos Street, to the new roundabout beyond Mylou Street, will be opened to traffic, with two-way traffic. The west side will be closed for construction work.

(b) Part of Patmos Street from its junction with Agia Paraskevi Street to the new temporary small roundabout beyond the "Green Forest" nursery, will operate as a one-way road with a permitted direction towards the new temporary small roundabout. The remaining part of Patmos Street will operate with two-way traffic and turns into a dead end. Vehicle traffic from the Panioti area to Germasogeia will take place via Atreidon Street, the Germasogeia Roundabout, the Limassol Road Bypass, Agia Paraskevi Street and M. Theodorakis Avenue (New Germasogeia Bypass Road). Traffic from Germasogeia to the Panioti area will proceed as normal.

(c) The remaining traffic regulations remain as they are.

In Paphos, on the Kathika-Prodromi road (Agiou Ypatiou street), at the two points of its junction with Agnoumena street, beyond the village of Drouseia, for 3 km. approximately, road works will be carried out in the period 12/1/2023 – 12/6/2023. During the works, access to and from Prodromi will be from Agnoumena Street (via Drouseia).

Also in Paphos, the road Aspro Potamos (borders of the State Forest) - Toxeutras in the Akamas National Forest Park is still closed, due to improvement works on the road network. The public, to avoid inconvenience but also for safety reasons, is invited to avoid using the road in question and to use the roads that lead from the communities of Inia, Arodon and Kathika to the Park. In particular, those who will visit Lara should use the "Inia-Lara" road and those who will visit Avakas the "Pano Arodes-Avakas" road. Land owners, farmers, breeders and other professionals operating in the area can use the "Pegia-Osia Matrona-Avakas" road.

In the Vassilikos area, the eastern road connecting the old Nicosia – Limassol road with the Vassilikos port, which was closed since 21/1/2020, will remain closed to the traffic police for another 3 months, until the end of May, 2023 , as part of the construction works of Phase 1 of the Road Network of the Vassilikos Energy Center. During the works, traffic from and to Vassiliko will be diverted to the corresponding west road (E107), through Mari. The movement of vehicles and pedestrians, on adjacent roads and residences will be done according to the corresponding local arrangements.

Also as part of the construction works of Phase 1 of the Vassilikos Energy Center Road Network, in Mari, from March 23, 2023, construction works will be carried out on the road between the EAC substation and the Vassilikos River in Mari, north of the cement plant facilities sewage system and one lane will be closed to traffic. Traffic will be regulated with traffic lights. The movement of vehicles and pedestrians, on adjacent roads and residences will be done according to the corresponding local arrangements.
