The Larnaca District Court found the former Metropolitan of Kition, Chrysostomos, guilty of indecently assaulting a girl who was 1981 years old in his office in 16. Upon hearing the verdict, those in the room erupted in applause, while some shouted at the defendant that he should be ashamed and that he insulted his position.
The top hierarch, after a lengthy hearing that began last May, was found guilty of indecent assault, with the court finding the testimony of the now 58-year-old complainant and defence witnesses credible. The decision was a catapult for the former Metropolitan. The case will resume on May 26 for a plea for mitigation of sentence.
It is recalled that during the hearing, the complainant testified, who stated that she had visited the Metropolitan of Kition five times in his office, in order to receive allowance as an orphan, because her father had died. According to the complainant's testimony, the Metropolitan of Kition locked her in his office the fifth time and indecently assaulted her on a sofa.
It should be noted that members of the network against violence against women were in court and held an event in support of the complainant.
