The problem of low birth rates in Cyprus is described as particularly serious by Archbishop George of Cyprus. The church in cooperation with the interior ministry is working on an incentive plan for young couples.
His pre-election commitment on this issue will be implemented soon, as the primate of the Church of Cyprus said in Paphos this afternoon. He attended an event of the women's organization of DIKO entitled "Mother of the Virgin Mary".
The low birth rate threatens the existence of Cypriot Hellenism in the land of its ancestors, Archbishop George said, noting that the plan to support families who will have more than two children is under preparation.
It will be, Archbishop George clarified, a considerable amount of money that the church will grant in addition to the state's aid.
Honoring the concept of motherhood, GODIK Pafos organized this event, which included an artistic program with poems and songs dedicated to the mothers of Cyprus.
