According to the Police and social bodies, the phenomenon of minors in the Pafos district using the cars of their parents or relatives is worrying. Not one, not two, but five minors have been detected in recent months by the Police in Paphos, in the Chrysochous district and in the suburban area driving cars in four of them and a four-wheeled motorcycle in the fifth case.
This serious situation arose during the intensification of the Traffic Police's operations to combat illegalities related to the Road Traffic Code and to implement stricter measures due to the surge in traffic on the roads after the return of tourist flow.
Some of the minors had the right to obtain a student permit, but were not accompanied by an adult, experienced driver, while others were not even of school leave age. They even drove the cars and motorcycle within the residential area, without receiving deterrence and surveillance measures from their relatives.
The cases of recent months, although they increased the problem, were not the first illegalities detected with underage students in the Pafos district as protagonists. Similar or even greater is the problem recorded during the operation of schools in 2022, a competent source told Phileleftheros.
