 Filenews 13 April 2023

Unpaid rents appear to be behind the beating of a 56-year-old foreigner, who was attacked yesterday afternoon by three masked men while sleeping at his residence in Episkopi. His 52-year-old Greek Cypriot landlord was arrested in the case after the complainant said in his testimony that he recognized his voice.

The 52-year-old suspect was brought before the Limassol District Court yesterday, which ordered his detention for a period of two days.

He is being investigated for the offences of burglary, malicious damage and assault causing grievous bodily harm. The 52-year-old suspect under investigation gave various allegations, which are being investigated, while the complainant is being treated with injuries at Limassol General Hospital.

According to what he reported to the police, the 56-year-old, while sleeping at his home in Limassol, realized that three men broke into and entered his house, having their faces covered with hoods. The alleged attackers then began beating him on various parts of his body, and caused some damage to his home.

At some point, according to the testimony of the 56-year-old victim, he heard the voice of one of the perpetrators and then realized that he was his landlord. One attacker even called him to leave, calling him by his first name. The 56-year-old was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where he was detained for treatment. He was found to have fractures in the nose and chest, bleeding in the left eye and traumatic injuries to the face.
