The websites of ministries and government agencies were shut down yesterday afternoon due to an internet connection problem.
The problem was caused by a water leak in a tank in the basement of the finance ministry, next to the room where the equipment that provides internet access for all state services is located.
Until late last night efforts were being made to resolve the problem.
Speaking on state television, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Filippos Hadjizacharia said the websites of government departments were taken down as a precaution.
Finance Ministry Director-General George Panteli said it was difficult to estimate when the problem would be resolved.
He also said that all possibilities for the reopening of the system and for the utilization of any available backup systems are being examined.
