The cost of the first phase of the sewerage system of Polis Chrysochous is estimated at more than €25 million. It will cover the municipal boundaries of Polis Chrysochous while the next phase will include the coastal parts of communities in the Gulf of Chrysochous, but not the nuclei of these communities.
According to Mayor Yiotis Papachristofis, the plans began 20 years ago, the plans are updated and tenders are expected. Based on the timetables set, the project is expected to start in March 2025 and the works to be completed in 24 months.
The local authorities in the region are demanding a greater state contribution to this costly project. The landowners of the area have been paying a sewerage fee of 2 per thousand on the value of their properties for the last two years and hope that eventually it will not be necessary to increase the amount of their own contribution to 7 per thousand.
