IN CYPRUS, THE MOST PROPORTIONAL GRANTS OF PROTECTION TO UKRAINIANS

Cyprus recorded the highest proportion of Ukrainian refugees who received temporary protection status relative to the country's population in the European Union in February 2023, according to data released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU.

In particular, Cyprus recorded a ratio of 1.1 Ukrainians with temporary protection status per 1000 inhabitants, with the second highest ratio recorded in the Czech Republic (0.9 per 1000 inhabitants).

In absolute terms, Germany was the Member State that granted temporary protection status to the most Ukrainian refugees in February 2023 (25,125 people). It was followed by Poland (24,905), the Czech Republic (9,775) and Romania (7,920).

The number of people granted this status decreased compared to January 2023 in 19 of the 26 Member States for which data is available. Cyprus is one of the few Member States where more people were granted status in February than in the previous month, with 935 persons granted status in January and 1035 in February.

The largest drop was recorded in Poland (3,450 fewer people than in January 2023), followed by Germany (3,080 fewer), the Czech Republic (2,630 fewer) and Romania (1,035 fewer).

The most significant increases were recorded over the same period in Ireland (540 more people) and Finland (520 more).

As of February 28, 2023, the total number of Ukrainian citizens granted temporary protection status after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (among the countries for which data was available) was highest in Germany (1,000,530 people) and Poland (989,080 people).

Also in February 2023, Germany granted this status to 7,725 minors (under 18), the most of all Member States for which data are available (31% of all Ukrainians who received the status at national level in February).

It was followed by Poland (6,070 or 24% of the national total), Romania (2,590 or 33%) and the Czech Republic (2,550 or 26%).

In Cyprus, temporary protection status was granted in February to 295 minors out of a total of 1,035 persons granted temporary protection status in the same month.
