The Fire Service responded in the last 24 hours to 108 incidents (96 fires, 7 special services and 5 false calls). Since March 10, when the fires that affect, indirectly but clearly, the lambratzies were recorded, it responded to a total of 242 incidents. During the night there were a total of 60 incidents involving lambratzies, in all provinces. The reports concerning the lambratzies continue today.
At 15:21 yesterday, two fire trucks from Limassol Stations responded to a fire in an apartment building under construction in Kapsalos, Limassol. The fire broke out on the roof of an apartment building. The fire caused extensive damage to 2 heat pumps and 6 air conditioning compressors. At the time of the fire, there were workers at the site.
At 00:35 the Service responded with two fire trucks to a fire in two parked vehicles on Kioproulouzante Street, near the church of Agios Antonios in Limassol. One vehicle was an old commercial vehicle (long immobilized) and the other was also in service as an Opel Corsa. The fire caused extensive damage to both vehicles, which were 30 metres apart. During the approach of the fire trucks to extinguish the fire, we were stoned by minors, fortunately without damage.
At 00.53 there was a call for a fire in a house in the Municipality of Paralimni and it concerned a small fire in a wooden cabinet caused by a lit candle (light of the Resurrection). It was extinguished by the owners before the arrival of the Fire Brigade. On behalf of the Fire Brigade there was an inspection only.
At 02:20 we responded for a fire on the terrace of a house in the Municipality of Geroskipou. The fire was in an outdoor wooden porch pergola and was probably caused by a lit candle (light of the Resurrection) left on a wooden table. The house was not affected.
At 05:01 the Fire Brigade responded with two fire trucks from Nicosia stations for a fire in four classrooms of Agios Stylianos High School in Strovolos. The fire caused extensive damage to the rooms with their equipment (office equipment, electronic equipment, books and stationery). The heat and smoke affected other classrooms and the painting of terraces and staircases. An investigation into the causes of the fire will follow. Malicious acts by minors are not excluded.
At 06:26 a response was made with 2 fire trucks from Nicosia stations for a fire in two classrooms of Agios Vasilios High School on Kantaras Avenue in Strovolos. From the fire the halls with their equipment suffered extensive damage. The smoke affected the painting of terraces and staircases. An investigation into the causes of the fire will follow. Malicious acts by minors are not excluded.
