Great concern has been caused by the modus operandi of five masked men, who broke into the house of a well-known businessman in Larnaca with crowbars and robbed him, forcing his wife to hand over a large amount of money. The robbers, according to the complaint, spoke to each other on radios and disrupted the entire house looking for money.
The complaint was made at five a.m. on Wednesday by the 71-year-old businessman, who told police that while he was with his wife and daughter at home sleeping, they heard noise and their dog barking. The attackers are believed to have jumped from the porch and entered the house by breaching the side door.
As the businessman's son told Omega's midday show, there is an alarm system in the house, however, unknown why, it did not sound. "My mother got up to see what happened, the door opened violently and hit her in the face. The first masked man entered, then four more appeared. This is organised crime, they were holding radios and talking to each other and they had ropes and bags with them."
The assessment is that the aim of the perpetrators was to tie up the occupants of the house, but they were caught by surprise when they came face to face with them. The 71-year-old businessman, at one point, tried to push them away, but they pushed him and fell to the ground. "They entered my sister's room, luckily the kids who were usually there were missing. Then they messed up the rooms. Then they asked where the safe was. They spoke broken Greek."
The five masked men discovered the safe that was in the living room and forced the businessman's wife to open it for them. From inside they grabbed €15,150 euros and two gold rings worth €5,000. They then grabbed €5,500 that was in the bedroom. Before disappearing, they tried to destroy the house's CCTV by pouring water, but the alarm system was activated and they were forced to leave. The closed-circuit surveillance of the house is under the microscope of the Larnaca ICF, which expanded the searches in the surrounding area, in an effort to identify testimonies about the movements of the robbers.
It is believed that the perpetrators had planned how to act, knowing who owned the house
