 Filenews 17 April 2023

Police arrested two people at dawn on Monday, following a fight in the centre of Nicosia. As a result of the fight, a 34-year-old man was injured, who was taken to Nicosia General Hospital.

According to the Police, at around 2.00 am today, following a report of a fight and a person injured, in an area of Nicosia, members of the Police who rushed to the scene found a 34-year-old man, who had injuries to his head and one arm.

At the same time, with the arrival of the members of the Police, a number of persons, who were in possession of wood and pieces of broken bottles, fled, but during the examinations and checks on persons who were at the scene, the members of the Police proceeded to arrest two persons.

Specifically, a 30-year-old man was arrested for the offenses of public insult, causing concern in a public place, drunkenness, assaulting a police officer, and resisting lawful arrest, as well as a 31-year-old man, for the offense of possession of an offensive instrument, after members of the Police found a paper cutter in his possession.

The 34-year-old injured man was picked up by an ambulance crew and taken for examinations to Nicosia General Hospital, where after receiving treatment, he was discharged. The 34-year-old was allegedly attacked by a person, who injured him with a sharp object in the head and hand. During the examinations by members of the Nicosia Central Police Station for the attack and injury of the 34-year-old with a sharp object, testimony emerged against the 31-year-old, who had earlier been arrested by members of the Police.

A second man, aged 34, during examinations at the scene of the attack, told police that he had earlier been attacked by a person who punched him in the face. The 34-year-old did not suffer any serious injuries from the attack. He then identified the 30-year-old man who had been arrested by police as the person who had attacked him.

The two suspects were taken into custody, with Nicosia Central Police Station investigating.
