TROODOS - 4x4 AND SNOW CHAINS

 Filenews 20 March 2023

Open only to vehicles with four-wheel drive or equipped with snow chains have become roads leading to Troodos, according to police.

As the Police said in an announcement, due to frost, the road from Troodos Square, up to the top of Mount Olympus, is open ONLY for vehicles with four-wheel drive or equipped with anti-skid chains.

In the rest of the country's road network, there is no particular problem, but urges drivers to be careful and observe the code, to avoid road collisions, especially where road works are being carried out.

Finally, the Police calls on drivers to be careful, to drive at a safe, low speed and to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front.

Weather in the coming days

Low pressure temporarily affects the area, moving east and weakening.

Today, initially, increased clouds are expected to give isolated rains, with the phenomena very soon being limited mainly to the eastern half of the island. Gradually the weather in several areas will become mostly clear, although in the early afternoon, south of Troodos, locally increased clouds are expected to give isolated rain. Diluted dust may be observed in the atmosphere from time to time. The winds will blow northwest to northeast and in the afternoon on the south and east coasts southeast to southwest, weak to moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be up to turbulent. The temperature will rise to around 19 degrees inland around 21 degrees on the coast and around 9 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight the weather will be mostly clear. The winds will blow mainly northwest weak 3 and locally to moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be up a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 9 degrees inland, around 11 degrees on the coast and around 5 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Tuesday the weather will be mostly clear, while early afternoon locally elevated clouds are likely to give isolated rain to the south. On Wednesday the weather will gradually become mostly cloudy with mostly average clouds that are later expected to give local rains. Local rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected on Thursday, with sparse dust likely to be observed in the atmosphere.

The temperature will rise on Tuesday, not significantly changing on Wednesday and falling slightly on Thursday to hover just above the average climatic values.
